Any of them that you like.
How about a thread entitled Albums to Listen to?
And the answer would still be "Any of them that you like."

The first three Pentangle albums. I wouldn't want to miss a single nuance!

When you are high, the album is still the same. The only difference is the way you perceive the music.
Like emigre80 said, the answer in all cases is "any album".
But anyway, the thread should not be taken seriously. Or should it? :)

That makes sense. This thread was a passive aggressive motive for those on the "best albums to listen to high" that insist on posting idiotic posts how you don't need drugs to enjoy music. If they can't shut up, this thread is for them or you.

Yeah I did, you guys are clearly way too comfortable with each other. Obviously no one disagreed, no one seemed to realize how lame and cliche their comments were. not everyone is stretching past 40 and feels the same about herb or drugs. The Thread was BEST ALBUMS TO LISTEN TO HIGH, not "comment about you're sobriety and your disgust on those that do enjoy jamming to music stoned", stop fighting me with technicalities and feelings because none of what I wrote was written with emotion unlike you guys that can't tell the difference.

I will pretend to be naive and act like this thread wasn't insincere and manipulative in the first place and try to post something constructive.
If I am learning how to play a difficult piece of music (okay, everything is difficult for me). Its quite possible i will be listening to samples of that music in at least a reasonably sober state while I work on it.

Personally, I frequent this website to share ideas, have a bit of a laugh and occasionally disagree (politely) with other posters. I have trouble imagining why anyone would come on here to be rude, obnoxious and pick fights with people.
I'm just saying, I don't see the point of your posts. Couldn't you find someplace besides a forum devoted to music to vent your anger?

Yep. Shouldn't need [insert substance here] to be able to listen to an album. Not saying I don't listen to music after having a few cold beers, but I don't NEED the beer to enjoy the music, and honestly it doesn't typically change my perception of the music much anyway (my willingness to sing along, on the other hand...).

I don't think any of the posters on the original thread implied you needed to get high to enjoy music, but they appeared to be looking for recommendations for music to savor if you happened to find yourself in such a state. I don't indulge myself, but had no trouble imagining which albums I would spin if under the influence.
Willingness to sing along, however - now that's a whole other topic.

Sorry, i must admit to being a bit sarcastic... Firstly, i will write abit about the gentleman's original thread topic... I used to think that some sort of 'enhancement' (herbal, alcoholic or yogic) was essential to listening to progressive music in all its forms but as ive got older, life and circumstances have changed and now i no longer have time, inclination or (ha ha) connections to listen in that way.. I listen to the same music and if anything hear it and appreciate it in a more intense and colourful form than i did in my youth.. so i think its more to do with matured mind than to do with whether it is enhanced by something. I have never (luckily- it is a serious issue for many) ever had to consciously consider whether or whether not to listen under the influence or not and personally still consider Herbal and Yogic stimulants as a 'sacrement' (by my own definition) and not a 'lifestyle enhancement' and whilst not indulging for many many years, still enjoy the odd alcoholic beverage occasionally and do not judge others for their choice of mindset when listening. I must admit that i am able to listen to much more complicated and dissonant music now than ever in my youth.. Back to Python... Thanks, maybe i will suggest something in the correct and appropriate space!! Luv'chew al!

Is he not? bless.. oh dear, thats a shame.. I have wondered about another idea for a thread.. I dont have any form of digital/ transportable form of music (ie smartphone or Ipod) so when i'm working (which is 90% outside) i listen to music in my head and can 'play' my favorite playlist in my head... What is your piece of music which you have memorised and can play in your head from start to finish?? (this is also extremely good excercise for your brain!)

^ No offense taken-- you shouldn't be bummed out by those who don't, or no longer, partake in mind-altering, attitude adjusting substances. I mean, who gives a crap? And yes prog has been dead (or comatose) for a very long time. Sometimes I think this place is as much 'Geriatric Nostalgia Archives' as it is Progarchives.
But we love it; young, old, high or clearheaded, males & (a few) females, gay or straight, we all love prog. Oh well.

Wow... So because you've run into 10 people on here you now know enough to judge the entire site? We have just as many youngsters on here as we've got old - it's just a matter of where you look. Thing is, most members can discuss things without being rude or downright abusive - you obviously can't. We have a very friendly forum because we all are interested in keeping it that way. That also means reprimanding newbies who come here to start sh*t with every new post they make. We will gladly see them back, if they can show a little goodwill, manners and maybe just a teenie tiny bit of courtesy towards the folks residing on the other end of their screen. Throwing a fit because we suspend a guy (even if he is your pal) for being a proper dick is not the way to go about anything either.

This forum is often at its most entertaining on "a slow news day" and these threads (along the not dissimilar Music for Atheists/Theists threads and all the best/worst tournament polls) are no exception. Anything that provokes a diametric response (whether that is due to posting while pissed/stoned/sober/angry/bemused or just out of plain boredom) makes for amusing casual reading when not taken too seriously, it sure beats the hell out of debating whether Genesis were more Prog than Yes, arguing over which kind of Prog a particular album is, or trying to nail What Is Prog? to a fixed set of rules.
When I was an Admin I toed the party-line on restricting the promotion of illegal activities (such as drug use and abuse) because that was part of my job-role. Then and now, I personally couldn't give a flying fart whether someone thinks they get more out of a piece of music when stoned, pissed or sober. I know what I like and know how I like to listen to music without having that condoned or condemned by someone else, just as someone stating that Edgar Froese was a poor guitarist doesn't affect my personal enjoyment of his playing. Getting your panties in a bunch just because someone on a forum disagrees with you is a pointless endeavour, as John pointed out - threats made anonymously in an online forum are empty threats.
peace out (and off).

''Sometimes I think this place is as much 'Geriatric Nostalgia Archives'' as it is Progarchives.'- Yes it is- that is, sadly, the nature of time. We dont have much choice but to look backwards to this music we enjoy and love so much as we move away from it in time. But We also look forwards to what is to come and around at what is currently here. And love it all. Geriatric... hhmm, yes there must be a very wide range of ages, from about 14 to 70 at a guess but i dont think that is a word i would use to describe anyone ive come across on this forum. Maturity of mind can be found in anyone of any age, along with manners, humility, thought for others etc. Conversely any age can produce immature, infantile, random ranting.. Just 'Nostalgia archives'.. thats fine..

The funniest thing is this person pretending to be a teenager and insulting older people has Jim Morrison (who died 44 years ago) as his avatar... So much for being modern and innovative.

What an inarticulate and garbled mess. When you drunkenly burble "nickname might not but I am you old pathetic geezers", I have to wonder if you subconsciously (or unconsciously, as the case may be) include yourself with the old pathetic geezers, or, more to the point, whether you ever will survive long enough to reach that age.

Emigre8o, I am sorry this bores you and makes sense you want to get back to topic :) but you ought to rephrase that because something currently being discussed right now by one or more members is not "old a few pages ago" ;)

If this thread is a pile of crap, and I agree that it is, then why was it posted in the first place? And any responses to your friend we're much less offensive than anything he said. No one here said that he was an idiot or made threats to him. He did, however and that's why members jumped on.
If prog is not your cup of tea, then why are you and your friend here? Who are the ones that really need to get a life?

I didn't mean it that way, Kati. I was talking about the posters who just wanted to continue being aggressive time after time without advancing the conversation. Sorry if it came out wrong

( Remembering S. Dali saying "I am drugs" )
Interesting topic as far as we'd ask which artistic experiment would take one's soul to high enougha level, that it'd match the power of (some) drugs – which drugs ?, so those drugs become superfluous.

This thread spawned a lot of pages due to the back and forth of member's arguments, but it seemed that few made the declaration that listening to music sober is better than listening to music while high. Strange.
