Next up... Classic Quarterfinal #2.  A great matchup of two of the best albums left in the tournament. Hate to see a loser here.

First vote for YS!

and 2nd ...  I have a LOT.. LOT of time for The Rotters Club.. but YS it is not.  There simply is no album that does what YS does.. while TRC is one of many greats in that particular musical vein.

I love it more.. but in the end giving the vote to the more unique.. and progressive album

As brazilian, I must have some italian blood lost in so many mixtures... so... I'am going with YS.

This is going to be a very one-sided poll I'm afraid... Ys it is for me as well!

One for the mad Hatfields. Ys is a great album but it doesn't really have the nuance that The Rotters Club brings to the table.

I think I'm going tactical with this one.

Ys is a fabulous album. Edgy, most definitely classic Prog and well worth a bunch of accolades. Reedy vocals are a bit iffy and I admit stylistically it's not what I'd routinely listen to, sometimes you have to approve of stuff you don't fully get.

Rotters , is a ball tearer. Wonderful album, worth its place in the annals of Prog and the fact it's opened up a few new things for me simply adds to its appeal.

However .... I do see RC as an album that could give Pawn Hearts a run for its money whereas I doubt Ys would. So I'm going with RC in the hope that maybe just maybe it can knock off the seemingly unbeatable favourite. Given that PH has won every round with ease that is probably a forlorn hope but one can but try.

As I said in the other thread, this would've been a deserved final of the classics for me, at least from the albums that's left in the tournament. Love both, but The Rotters' Club just so much more, so, in the end, it was an easy choice.

Love both but Ys.
Rotters Club is such a warm and "nice" little album to listen to. The Italians on the other hand broke the mould with Ys.

and I will keep saying it...  the debut is a cocaine in the bloodstream.. an immediate high. It was my favorite for years..

The Rotters Club is the most prog of drugs..  one that may take multiple hits before leaving you drooling and wishing Richard Sinclair was your bitch...

they are quite different Ian IMO... and both are great at their particular takes (the debut traditional whimsical Canterbury and the 2nd more in serious J-R/F territory)

Just something I read the other day but thought was interesting was an interview with long time Delerium label owner Richard Allen who while touring with one of his label bands Porcupine Tree in Italy asked the promoter there what was the best 70's album from Italy. The promoter replied YS by Il Balletto Di Bronzo. So he picked it up and said it was indeed amazing or something like that. I guess Richard used to ask this question to promoters in the different countries he would visit in order to find new music. This was in the nineties I believe.

I do wish Richard was my bitch, but I haven't been able to see any progress in my liking for Tha Club. I've also heard people say before that the debut deserved multiple listens, but I do love that one, while Rotters Club just sounds cold and flat...

Done meditating...we are going for YS here. The only reason RC isn't getting the vote is because I'm not a huge fan of the tracks "Didn't Matter Anyway" and "Underdub", while YS is strong throughout. Both YS and the Hatfield's debut are more consistent but neither has anything as great as "Mumps" on them.

So, ultimately, this is a battle between (IMO) the greatest RPI album ever and one of the greatest Canterbury albums.

funny Daryl... I'd consider YS the only RPI album to seriously merit inclusion in a greatest prog albums ever discussion...yet wouldn't consider it the greatest RPI album.  That I would give to Palepoli which is totally and unabashedly ... Italian.
