Hi. There are 4 great bands from Czech Republic. Each of them have masterpiece albums. Perhaps they are Underrated bands (even Progres 2) . I really like to know your opinions and choices.
Thanks

Hi. I recommend you to listen to them and if you like Eclectic prog I'm sure you like them. I write their best albums (IMO) for you :

Psi Vojaci : Leitmotiv (1991)
Progres 2 : Dialog s vesmirem (1980)
Jazz Q : Symbiosis (1973) IMO this album is Eclectic Prog but their genre in PA is Jazz Rock/Fusion
Synkopy : Slunecní Hodiny (1981)

I think you can start with these albums (if you like to listen) . Thumbs Up

I only know Progres 2 and their Dialog s vesmírem album. Very good. Been a while since I last played it, perhaps I'll dig it out for a spin later tonight. No vote though, since I don't know the others.

Thanks Bard. I'm very happy to see you here. As you said Dialog s Vesmirem (difficult name for me) is very good album (IMO is a masterpiece). If you like it, You will like other bands in this poll.

Yeah, I think Dialog is very good, though it's not a masterpiece for me. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars is where I'd rate it. A bit too much straightforward rock there for my taste, but with a captivating concept no doubt (gotta admit, don't understand a thing of what they're singing LOL). Will check out the other bands there, sometime. So yeah, same here, thanks for the recs. Thumbs Up

And thanks for the reminder about Modrý Efekt, Sam. I've been aware of them for some time, but haven't really checked them out, although I do remember hearing one of their albums once, might have been Svitanie, might have been the one with Radim Hladik, might have been both. LOL I remember liking what I heard though, so I'll try to remember to check them out more thoroughly sometime.

Perhaps I "must" change topic title to 4 of great ... but I don't think this is a BIG MISTAKE . If you (You and other guys) want to change this topic title , please tell me to do it. Thanks.

From the list Synkopy, one of their albums and I think their best Křídlení from 1983 is absolut excellent. Progress 2 is another winning band and Blue Effect I think is the most well known across the borders.

I agree with you. Honestly I like Křídlení  more than Hodiny but Hodiny have higher rate in PA

I must confess about my opinion. When I make this topic , I decided to vote to Progres 2 and this was my first choice BUT after listening to all of them again I changed my decision , And I want to vote to SYNKOPY (if I vote). I don't vote yet and try hard to resist against VOTING in my own poll

If we're counting Slovakia then FERMATA is a must to be mentioned and probably my favourite.

My fav album though is probably the one JAZZ Q and BLUE EFFECT did together called "Coniunctio". It's fairly avant but man it's so good.

Of the possible choices, I vote Synkopy--they produced two excellent albums, some pretty good EPs in the early 70s, and a couple decent 80s albums. Progres 2 had one excellent albums and a few decent ones. Jazz Q has a couple great albums and a few decent ones. I'm excited to hear their "new" album. I'm not as familiar with Psi Vojaci, but from what I've heard I didn't like them as much as the other three.

I also agree that my overall favorite Czech band is Blue Effect--they had a string of excellent albums throughout the 70s.

Of those not mentioned in the thread so far, don't forget these:

Flamengo, and their excellent Kure V Hodinkach
Cuprum, wonderful 70s styled modern band
Hokr/Pocoloco--you just have to hear them--both Hokr and Pocoloco's only album are all excellent (I'm not as big a fan of the side project Abigail)

Lots of great music from this region!

Thanks . I like CUPRUM and I guess, I wrote a short comment about them (Brahma Visnu Siva album) in Progfreak but I list oldest and Underrated band in this list. Perhaps I lost many of great bands like Blue Effect. I know them and I have some of their 70's albums. They are one of the Jazz music Icons and I know this.I don't want explain about this poll with long post. I love these 4 bands and this isn't mean I don't like others. Smile

No explanation needed! For me the best part about the polls is to hear what others think, including thoughts about bands that are related to but not listed in the polls. I've learned a lot about bands and music I wasn't previously familiar with.

Nice poll!

Without a doubt my favourite album from the Czech Republic. Out there, wild and rambunctious...in all the right places!!!
Oh and I voted for Jazz Q.
