This site has an unwritten law that a band should have 1 major prog release to be allowed into the archive. this is rather risky as if this is true bands like Black Sabbath, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Iron Maiden and Metallica should DEFINITELY be here.

sgt peppers, sabotage, tommy/quadrophenia, LZ4, and justice for all and seventh son are all prog albums. Yet the bands who made them are not prog artists.

I recon the old more prog than non prog guideline is a more accurate one.

WHAT SAY YOU?

I'll speak for the Who: Tommy is certainly progressive, but not 100%, the same with Quadrophenia (Quadrophenia is damn near 100% prog, though IMO).

I find Houses of the Holy and even Presence more progressive than LZ4.

Sabbath is arguable, as is Maiden.

The Beatles and Metallica I think don't belong here.

Besides, if we were to add these, then Deep Purple, Billy Joel, Cream, and Elton John (who is quite proggy) would all be shoe-ins.

...keep Gloucester pure...death to false prog!

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

perhaps a new section of the site should be available where we only add albums and not bands so we can put certain prog albums by non prog artists in, without having to include the whole discography. (imagine putting in all the beatles albums and compilations!).

The section could be like various artists but instead be called "One off prog albums" or something, and users can add albums they think belong there.

EG A Night at the opera, argus, the downward spiral?, Ziggy Stardust etc. (just examples of possible ones to include).

Even with this in place Radiohead and Nightwish STILL wouldnt have a place in the archives as they have abolsutely no prog albums!

Black Sabbath is not progressive , but maybe we should include the Who.

i think ur missing my point ppl. i do not WANT any of the above mentioned bands included. Just either PA to change the guideline or for PA to create a new "artist" in the archives with a name like one off prog.

We've been discussing such a thing in the Collaborator's Zone.

Maybe we could have a "Prog Bands" section and a "Prog Albums" section. Then we could have the Archives stay the way we're used to, but add Ziggy Stardust and Quadraphenia in a sort of "honerable mention" section. (Retro-active to Queen, of course  )

That would be a very healthy addition I think as well as being really interesting.  Could even then include single songs for example 'Achilles Last Stand' by LZ is prog in it's own right - or is that negated due to it being a song and not an album?
