I was a Nicolas Cage fan back then and these are some of my favorites.
In The Rock you have Sean Connery and Ed Harris both doing excellent jobs.
In Con Air you have John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi and John Cusack standing out.
In Face/Off I always admired the way both actors switched personalities without missing a beat.

I'll have to come back to this one...

man.. SO MANY great ones.. well and above the 4 listed even.

of those. I do have a weak spot for Con Air..

After kicking it around I voted for Con Air but it wasn't easy.

I guess FaceOff, though The Rock is okay.   Cage's career has always seemed a bit tragic; Birdy was so promising and then it was mostly crap for him with the occasional Wild at Heart or something edgy.   His last best was Joe .

Con Air tops my list with The Rock coming in second. I found Face Off to be an absolute disaster in every possible way. Horrible premise, horrible film making and absurd execution.I  think I've only seen Gone in 60 Seconds once and it didn't really resonate with me, there are far better cars chase movies to watch. But for all the bashing that Cage gets He does have a likeability in some of his movies that just seems to fit. National Treasure and Next come to mind.

they are campy but fun..

I'd take Raising Arizona or Wild at Heart over any of these though.

btw.. the soundtrack to that movie is frickin awesome. One of my favorite movie soundtracks. In fact putting that on next.

my god ..was I the only one that had severe lust for Laura Dern back in the day. Only topped by Ellen Barkin. woo HOO!!!

oh Ellen...and speaking of the almighty Ellen Barkin. How can one not mention the greatest movie of the 80's..  so far above any other. And how did I forget this one in top 10 list.

I thought "Knowing" was a good movie. It was an interesting story about something that could happen at any time (even though predicting the end of the world fifty years before it happened was pure Hollywood).

what do you all think of his performance in Leaving Los Vegas.. man that was one depressing movie. I only saw it once and never again. I was enjoying life too much as a full blown alcoholic and life of the party to want that particular splash of cold water reality to my face.

^  I used to have a huge crush on Elizabeth Shue. Shocked
Anyway, that was a very intense movie and I've also only watched it once.

I'd definitely say Face/Off, although National Treasure is a close second. Such a goofy flick, but so much fun at the same time (actually, I guess that applies to both of them).

I also have to go `The Rock', one of the better Michael Bay flicks as well (by quite a long way!), a cool premise with tons of energy, was great fun as well. Certainly not as obnoxious and self-indulgent as the `f*ck-you' attitude of Bay's more recent Transformers sequels!

`Face/Off' is probably the better flick over `The Rock', but it's longer and a lot more involved so you can't rewatch it as often.

`Gone in Sixty Seconds' is awful! I rewatched it recently and it's pretty much devoid of action for impossibly long stretches.

Have to admit, one of my favourite of his from this period was the dark vigilante thriller `8MM', I'd love that to get a Bluray release.

I don't know Gone in 60 Seconds, but Face/Off is a great film, even if it is far from being my favourite John Woo film. Not only the action is outstanding, the plot turned out to be more intelligent than I expected. On the other hand, I was really disappointed with The Rock and Con Air, specially the latter.

I thought all four were rubbish, and not even entertaining rubbish at that.

Con Air even managed to keep Steve Buschemi from doing anything interesting - which must have been a real challenge because that man is incapable of being dull.  Or at least that is what I thought until I saw CA.

Only seen Face/Off of these, liked it. I'm not really an action film fan.

Cage has put out some very good ones and bad ones. I thought the Wings of Desire and Wicker Man remakes lamentable.

My favourite of his is Vampire's Kiss.

My favorite NC movies will always be Moonstruck.

Yep, Christoffer, I enjoyed Adaptation. By the way, calling those remakes lamentable is too negative sounding -- just I was a big fan of the originals. His Wicker Man is fun.

First vote for Gone in 60 seconds but that is entirely Robert Duvall's doing (or Angelina Jolie - damn she was hot back then... that is before she stopped eating food).
My fave Nicolas Cage flick has to be Leaving Las Vegas (or Wild at Heart). He always plays the same part though - even when the character calls for something different.

The other three are mediocre to average IMO

Where's Wild at Heart or Moonstruck (infinitely better than the four HBO repeat ad naseum flicks chosen for the poll....none of which I could sit all the way thru)?  Where's Raising Arizona (by far the best film featuring Cage) or Peggy Sue Got Married - both excellent comedies?  Where's the creepy Red Rock West?  Where's Adaptation and Joe - both strong recent entries into the Nick Cage filmography?
