The 90's showed a revival of progressive music. Which is your favorite 90's year in Prog? Justify your choice by giving a few examples. Mine is 1999: Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream Dream Theater - Scenes... yeah.. I like many albums... never paid attention to the years they were released I suppose. It wasn't like I was sitting around in 1994 waiting on the next prog release... Same thing I was going to say. (I do like the Art Zoyd '95 and '97 releases muchly too). ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |

1997 for Subterranea, Unfold Like Staircase, Angels & Demons, Stardust We Are, Heaven's Bright Sun (Iona live is amazing), and my CD shows a release date of 1997 for Kindness of Strangers. Unfortunately it was also the scene of the crime for perhaps the worst Yes album.

My favourite albums from the 90s are all over the place year-wise but Talk Talk's Laughing Stock wins it for 1991 with some help from Slint's Spiderland, sowing the seeds of post rock. |

For me, the decade started with the Orb and then Tortoise and the fusion of acts like Transglobal Underground, etc. Prog rock hardly registered at all although I managed to see Caravan and Kevin Ayers live for the first time ever!! |

Fantastic debuts from Spock's Beard (The Light), The Flower Kings (Back in the World of Adventures) and Arena (Songs from the Lion's Cage), plus Marillion's Afraid of Sunlight, Porcupine Tree's The Sky Moves Sideways and Dream Theater's A Change of Seasons (not a studio album, but their single best song ever). |
