You're kidding??????

There's not a lot of reson if you dont find them amazing:

- You dont like prog

- You've listen to them only one time or doing something else and dont concentrate yourself on the music.

- You're earless

Now tell us why you don't like the album. Tell something.

You post a topic without any explanation whatsoever, you insult people for no reason and misspell "the" to look cool and fail. How do you expect gold in return if you offer dirt?

  • Gabriel's cringeworthy, sorry "theatrical" vocals.
  • Often uninspiring musicianship.
  • Sickly tweeness.
  • The inescapable feeling that the music has not aged AT ALL well.
And yes, I do like prog as well. If anyone's thinking of suggesting otherwise because I too can't see the appeal of Genesis, then quite simply: f**k you.

Fair enough; perhaps you should review them, just make sure you explain what you don't - & do like about them. But first maybe give them another airing in say a week's time, just to make sure you still feel the same way.

Each to their own of course, I'm not suggesting he has to like them, in fact I agree that to like Prog and genesis are not neccesary parings. Far from it in fact. After all, there are plenty  thatdon't like ELP at all!

Not that any of you f**king children care, but this thread, excuse me,
rant has finally done it. some enter into these threads hoping for
intelligent, insightful, open-minded discussions of a music genre they
like. This sort of churlish crap is a useless waste of time. And the sad
thing is, many of these supposed, and self-admitted music snobs pretend
to hold themselves to a higher standard. You'd never know it by reading
this childish crap.

Come off it, just because something isn't to your taste doesn't mean it's dull!  There must be something to them since they're one of my favourite bands and "normal" symphonic prog is not something I'll give a second listen to generally!

Abacab was uninspiring and dull, but I can't name a single album while they had Gabriel that was dull or uninspiring, though I have been a Genesis fan for 11 years...

Mnemosyne is fully right, except that you need to add the obligatory "to me" to his statement.

Musical taste is something fully personal, and even in the specialized subgenre of progrock, there is (I think) no-one who loves all the recognised masterpieces.

I love these Genesis albums (SEBTP is my absolute all-time favcourite CD in any pop/rock genre), but I fully understand that others will have a different opinion. Just like I don't see what's so special about ELP, King Crimson or Jethro Tull.

I am on Zooka and Trouserpress' side here.  Both of those albums to me are completely inconsistent and average.  I know that Genesis is an influential and big name in prog, but it doesn't mean their music is brilliant.  The only really good song they have to me is Firth of Fifth, that song is so cool compared to any other songs on both albums that it was probably an accident.  Try to convince me that anything on these albums are amazing.

You related Gentle Giant, to 1337 chat. I hope you die, as you are not worthy to hear GG.

And what, you probably only listened to them ONE time, man you don't deserve to hear this music. It takes time to get use to, and when it does its like YES HOT.

You need to lisen to the albums more 3 times is not enough i think i lisend like 10 times on SEBTP befor i started to like it  i still dont think its the best prog album ever like everyone else on this site sems to do, but foxtort on the other hand is awsome i whuld rate em SEBTP 8/10 and Foxtrot 10/10. I also bought Nersery cryms some dayes ago and have hardly lisen to anything else since i loved the album right from the start it was much easier to get in to then the other 2 and i whuld rate it 9/10  And dont whory everybody forgets to take the pills some days

Both SEBTP and Foxtrot (and Nursery Cryme for that matter) are 5* albums by a mile IMO.

Look at the ratings! You may not like them (and you are fully entitled to your view, however wrong it may be) but you are very much in the minority.

A lot of music has to do with opinion, and remember just becuase you dont like them doesnt make them any less appealing to other people. Personally other than hot rats, i think everything Frank Zappa has done is rubbish. But I dont go on every Frank Zappa thread saying. "Its not any good, prove to me that its good even though you cant becuase its opinion and ill just act like its terrible and there isnt ANYTHING you can do about it!"

I've still never met a prog album that i've liked immediately.  it takes a few listens to get into any [good] band [worth listening to].  give it a while.  let the subtleties sink in.

For a friend of mine- hun..you dissappoint me.

Sorry lass, but a few times before now I've been accused not being "a true prog fan" because I dislike Genesis. That sort of thing's really rather frustrating and I've not time for it.

Some people just don't like Gabriel's voice, the same with Labrie's and Fish's voice, its all about taste.

I'm sure he's aware that it's his opinion, and I don't think he ever wanted it to "change the water level," so to speak. We all state our opinions on here all the time; that's the whole point of having a forum like this. Why does everyone seem so offended by Zooka doing the same? Just because his opinion is unpopular doesn't mean he meant to be hostile by posting it, nor does it mean that it's any less valid than any other opinion that's shared around here.

the best rock drumming ever, IMO... amazing poetic lyrics... wonderful piano, best writing from Genesis on these 2 records... amazing counterpoint, rhythm, melodies,  and chance taking. Amazing  album artwork...  Next to Close to the Edge, these are my favorite Symphonic Prog records.

Genesis >> all neo-prog copycats, IMO.

Maybe I'm not a real avant-progger since i've enjoyed those albums approximately a month ago.

And I am always reminded of avant when I'm listening to taht song Frith of Fifth. lol

@ Trouserpress: For Avant-Proggers like you and me, Genesis will always sound uninspiring. Let's face it.

@ Everyone else (specially Genesis fans): Sorry, but IT DOES sound uninspiring and dull

Oh my god !!! Look at this guys  It seem that "Avant-Proggers" and God are synonyms. It's because of people like him that many thinks proggers are snobish. Sorry Mnemosyne, but your message is completely stupid and snob.

Genesis are my favorite bands, and I love all their cd of the Gabriel era plus some of the Collins/Hackett era. I'm a musician, I listen to a lot of music, and sorry, but I found Genesis inspiring, intelligent, and very good musicianship.

I don't care you don't like them, just don't think you are right for everyone telling that they are uninspiring. This is just a question of TASTE, not a hierachy where Avanat-Proggers are on the top !

Stupid........
