Completely ridiculous poll Darryl
Way too much goodness here to be able to chose only one act. Oh well seeing TD without any votes made the choice for me, but yeah Popol Vuh, Art Zoyd, Floyd, Chinsome, Softs and National Health are all wonderful.

Why not offer a "best band" poll with all bands, a lot of other polls could go packing then. Tongue

Regarding this one, a good tradition is to go, out of my favourites, for the one that doesn't have a vote yet and that's Talk Talk (actually just one word twice).

My vote sent Art Zoyd in the lead - yeah!

Today, I'm with Jethro Tull. They've made the best record of any band on this list, A Passion Play.

My top three might be something like this:
Jethro Tull > King Crimson > Dream Theater

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Not much in the way of meh groups here. Henry Cow can get a nod this time. Competition for greatness is high. Frith v. McLaughlin...

Does Talk count? One word twice? Words beginning with a tease this time. Still think of Talk x 2 as an 80s pop group. Now if only Univers Zero had their coveted spot in the poll...

Henry Cow - in among tough competition.  It's nearly 40 years ago that I was lucky enough to see this great band for the first time.  I was 14 then and blown away...

Despite my love for many of those bands, it has to be Pink Floyd

1. King Crimson
2. Jethro Tull
3. Gentle Giant
4. Pink Floyd
Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tangerine Dream, Weather Report

I don't have any set criteria, but I tend to favor 'peak' performance. But if we're talking about longevity or consistency, I think Jethro Tull is clearly ahead of the pack. I mean just look at their output between Stand Up and Stormwatch - NUTS! And there were some nice albums outside that period, too.

I love a lot of bands on this list. Steven Wilson is my favorite current singer - I love Porcupine Tree. Genesis has always been one of my favorites. I love King Crimson and Dream Theater as well. And I've been listening to Gentle Giant for as long as I can remember.

But I have to put Pink Floyd at the top of my list! I can't get enough of "Animals" and "Wish You Were Here." Whenever I'm in a good mood, I put on "Dark Side of the Moon" and ponder the meaning of life. And "The Wall" has so much meaning and mastery to it that it'll remain classic forever. "Atom Heart Mother Suite" is one of my favorite orchestral compositions of all time. "The Division Bell" and "The Final Cut" sum up the greatness of Gilmour.

And Gilmour is good solo as well!

I like most of the bands in this poll.
Pink Floyd got my vote.

A lot of other two word bands come to my mind - Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, High Tide, Wishbone Ash, Black Sabbath, Black Widow, Birth Control. All a bit on the heavy side, and I like it heavy.
