I've tried Tangerine Dream, ELP and Rush and enjoyed their music, but felt longing for a more realistic view of the future.

Any ideas?

Meshuggah's Future Breed Machine from 1995 is pretty accurate already.

I guess "Songs from Distant Earth" by Mike Oldfield (or more accuratley, by Arthur C. Clark) might do the trick.
