Anyone enjoying the new album? I only have Sad Wings of Destiny and was considering more.

I only really know the early stuff, I like the debut Rocka Rolla the most, but it doesn't seem generally highly regarded. I should check out more including the new album at some time.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

To be honest, it's been a while since I heard them beyond the 'hits'. Went through my heavy metal phase in the late 70s and early 80s along with my other stuff - I even saw them live a couple of times - but my musical tastes developed elsewhere. However, I've heard a lot of the new album and it seems a much needed return to form after a few wrong turns. Nothing particularly new, but if you like JP of old and 'classic' heavy metal - the new album will have something for you. Progressive? Not really - but all rock music has its place.

Sad Wings of Destiny is an excellent album, and it seems to have a little bit of everything.  I have not ventured into their commercial stuff as my progressive ears much prefer progressive metal to most commercial metal.

I just reviewed the new album. It's on the MMA homepage. A really solid album with lots of the classic Priest sound. 4 stars

I was planning on checking reviews over there as they rolled in.  Thanks!

I just gave the new album a spin and loved it.  Judas Priest were my favorite metal band growing up.  Halford is one of the best screamers out there and actually reminds me of Peter Hammill at times.

IMO, Priest peaked with Point Of Entry and Screaming For Vengeance

Holland is NOT as good a drummer as Binks, and the songs are more commercial, but I enjoy those albums a lot more than Sad Wings, Stained Class and British Steel.

Painkiller was a nice return to form back in the day, though.

Sin after Sin... run. not walk to the nearest CD seller and get it... you definitely started in the right place.. but there are so many other great ones as well.

With Simon Phillips on board as the drummer, Sin After Sin is always a good time.

Honestly though my fav is Defenders of the Faith, as it was the first thing I bought by them, plus I was big on the whole metal thing. Obviously the drummer wasn't as good though.

Firepower to me is the best JP album since the mighty Painkiller from 1990. You won´t find a future classic on it, but you also won´t have to deal with filler material. 14 zracks, straight forward stuff, the Priest is back!!! 8 outta 10 points.

Never been a big Priest fan but Painkiller kicks my ass every time I listen to it.

Pretty much agree with this. Solid release though nothing really stood out to me as among their best. It does say a lot that I can play this from start to finish while driving without having to skip a track.

Stained Class is the finest JP record ever made as it formed the sound that metal would become after it. The songwriting is really tight and the drumming (for once) is spot on. After this record imho Priest tanked, getting far less ponderous and a lot more commercial. I'm not saying there isn't merit to the later stuff but for me the heyday is sad wings through stained class.
