Two, I think, comparable in several ways albums from around the turn of the millennium (2000 and 2001). Both were departures from previous material and are quite experimental. I think I know which album will get more votes, but it's a little bit of exposure for an album I love (the Air). While Kid A is often lauded, many consider 10 000 Hz Legend to be a step down from earlier Air material (it's my favourite Air album).
Here are three tracks from each album for those that don't know them (might have gone with some others and it is not an adequate substitute for hearing both albums in full).
Some might question Air in Prog polls, but I think it fits reasonably well, and Radiohead, of course, is in a Prog category.

The poll has its purpose fulfilled... thanks for pointing me to Air, it's good... it's not quite Kid A but I like it. (Kid A is hard to beat in my books so well done at least challenging it.)

I'm really liking the Air album that I haven't heard before. Moon Safari is still in my books a fantastic album from the group.
I'd probably put Cafe Tacvba's Reves/Yosoy into the same category. Many people even consider it a pairing to Kid A, so I see in these reviews.
This is all from their 1999 album, a little earlier than these selections you chose, but still with minimalistic viewpoints. A song could literally have a harp playing, a quiet dog barking, and a man humming, and that's it.
I mentioned the band's addition here before on this sitewith massive backlash, which is fine. One of the coolest active/somewhat-recent bands there is.

Glad you two have enjoyed music from that Air album. Moon Safari is great, I love the loungy retro feel of it which evokes old softcore film soundtracks. I would recommend trying The 1997 Air EP, Premiers Symptômes.
My first Air album was Talkie Walkie, and I like the Virgin Suicides soundtrack. I only "really" listened to the 10 000 Hz Legend for the first time the other day (the full album is on youtube), but had heard bad things about it before. I loved it. Some have claimed that it's a failed experiment, overly ambitious, pretentious, too much of a departure from the music that made AIR a success, too fan-alienating by the attempt at something different, boring, and too experimental or weird for its own good (I don't think such people would be, say, Avant Prog, Krautrock or Progressive Electronic fans on the whole).
