Apart from myself obviously, I would say Tony R, because his favourite band is Rush. He also likes Genesis and doesn't care much for ELP or Dream Theater. It dont get much better than that...

Let's I'd say Baldjean/freide, Trouserpress, and Phillipe.  They have the best taste and can recommend some more obscure stuff, which I like

You and Philippe.
I think we are the few people to really enjoy Krautrock and bands like Popol vuh which is essential in my opinion.
You have wider tastes than Philippe, who dislikes Gong for example, whereas i consider them as one of the very best band.

Sean trane first with Oliverstoned and Baldjean (despite that I want to ear from her other things than Peter Hammill and krautrock )

Olivier, Yes I dislike Gong music but as a snob I consider that I've better to listen to...

My faves (no order):
  • Joren
  • The Baldies
  • Syzygy
  • Sean Trane
  • MikeEnRegalia
All these people have recommended me some excellent group. I'm sure there are many many others here with equally commendable taste, but they elude me for now.

- WiguJimbo
- Syzygy
- Dieter Fischer

that's everyone I can think of now that have interesting taste

All collabs, because I don't know the other members too well. Come to think of it:

- JrKASperov, my buddy of course! We have a lot in common when it comes to musical taste!

BTW, Retrovertigo and Useful Idiot also have interesting taste in music, although we don't have that much in common.

Oh, and I forgot

Proglucky. Can't fault any of his recomendations so far

Hibou, generally agree with her reviews

easy Livin', see Hibou, but with less hair, and replace her with his.

Fandango, seem to like the same neo bands

Myself, my taste is impeccable

and of course Gdub666, who can fault a guy who mentiones vdgg and neo-prog in the same sentence.

I'd also like to mention some more names:

  • Trouserpress
  • BaldJean/BaldFriede
(it's not easy to follow their recommendations though, because most of them are obscure and quite impossible to find items. I really enjoyed listening to High Tide though!)
  • Useful_Idiot
  • Certif1ed
  • Gatot (who has a quite unusual rating "pattern")

I'm glad that at least Tuxie thinks I have similar tastes to him...I was beginning to feel left out!

Anyway, I had forgotten to mention Blacksword (whose tastes and musical listening background are both eerily similar to mine), Limeyrob, Horza and to some extent, Tony R & Snowie (esp now that he's been rifling through my neo-prog collection).....

Danbo...the expert of modern american prog. Almost every band he has allowed me to sample in his extensive collection was awesome.

Tuxon and Stonebeard for realizing the merits of neo-prog

and anyone who thinks VDGG/Hammill are at the top of prog.

Normal? And people tell me I have weird tastes.................................................

By normal I meant things that aren't to do with traditional prog - more bluesy and jazzy acts. It wasn't a negative thing!

I certainly wasn't reading that in a negative way, don't worry (and thanks for the support), but I'm still trying to translate "normal" in this context ? BTW check out my first show of the season tonight at 8pm bst for some more "unusual sounds":

I'd say Easy Livin, Trotsky and Dick Heath have the best taste on the forum- although its fair to say that from the reviews they've written, I seem to have similar taste.

sincerely (and i'm pretty serious), the member with one of the best musical taste is ...greenback, a deeply forgotten member in all aspects!

glad to see i've never been mentioned in this thread, because actually it does not look like I love tons of varied subgenres like neo prog, symph prog, fusion, RIO, prog metal, zeuhl, prog related, electronic prog, canterbury, italian style jazz, pop, rock, hard rock, metal, new wave, synth pop, disco, house, dance, euro dance, trance, new age, ragtime, dixieland, classical...when i love something, i don't shout it very loud, but when i hate something, that's another story!

what i find outstanding is my consistency in hating bands who really sound the same: it looks like i have an internal detector of cheap, gross & insipid music.

other members with excellent taste:

hibou

swinton MCR

blacksword

gatot

All this thread really does is make people who aren't mentioned feel bad about their taste.

Anyone who likes creativity has got a good musical taste.

And that's why I don't like punk.

I'm working on the principle that no one's weirder than prog fans. Except maybe krautrock fans

Being taste something so personal and unique, with which we are born but developed from our own personal experiences, it's dishonest to say something different than me.

  • If you vote for a person with similar taste to your's, then you're only chosing a reflexion of your own taste.
  • If you vote for a person with different taste to yours, than you have no taste at all and don't know wat you like.

Each person should believe he/she has the best taste, because it's his/her own one.

Ask me who I believe has more knowledge of music and I'll give you some names or who makes the best reviews, but voting for another person's taste, is an absurd IMHO.

Iván
