Art Zoyd's debut (aka: Symphonie Pour Le Jour Ou Bruleront Les Cites or Symphony for the Day Cities Will Burn.) How can one have a discussion about Univers Zero Without bring up Art Zoyd. I can't.

Art Zoyd is probably my favourite band over-all.

Yeah, I like it a lot, though I guess I might have tended to listen to the 1981 version a little more. "Simulacres" off the debut album version in particular really got me interested in Art Zoyd.

EDIT: By the way, there was a time when the debut was my favourite Art Zoyd album (I love all of the first eight AZ albums and I love Faust and Haxan, and I enjoy various other Art Zoyd albums)

It's a delight that one. Probably even less "rock" that UZ's debut. Time and again and once more relistening to this after some time in which I have mostly listened to the 17 (!) CDs of their two recent box sets it strikes me how outworldly, competent and commanding they are in their whole approach. They have existed for quite some time before recording this album, I think. They remind me of a friend who wouldn't speak for the first almost three years of her life. Parents became quite worried, but when she started to speak she would say correct and quite sophisticated sentences, and she went on to become a linguist.
Art Zoyd are in a class of their own and have been from the beginning.

I'm one of the weird ones that prefers the debut to the rerecording. More bite to my ears.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

This is The only LP of theirs I have, and it’s a good one. Must spin it again, it’s been a while. I recall some zeuhl-ish moments at times, but I could be imagining that ??

mmmmhhh!!!...
From what I gather, the 76 version is quite hard to come by... (I've only heard it twice at a buddy's house)

AFAIK, it was only reissued in the boxset by this japanese label some 8 to 10 years back.

Agree 100%. The second go 'round was too "polished" for lack of a better description.

In the age of digital nothing is hard to come by, be it for better or worse.

I've got it on vinyl. The 1976-version was http://https://www.subrosa.net/en/catalogue/soundworks/art-zoyd-symphonie.html" rel="nofollow - reissued on Sub Rosa I don't think it cost me more than 12 euros... The 1980-recording is just as great (and almost identical) but this is a tad grittier.

I'm probably not a real fan... I rarely bother to even listen to a re-recording if I have one that is fine by me... (got the 1976 album from a friend around 1990 when he got rid of all of his vinyl).

I wouldn't have bothered myself I guess - except I heard the re-recording first. I won't say its essential listening either - "blindfolded" I'm not certain i could tell which one I was listening to. As they are that alike.

I did listen to it last night online.........reminds me of Univers Zero,....a band that I have 3 albums by...but burned by a friend who insisted I listen to them.
RIO has never been an area I enjoy that much. Fine musicians in Zoyd but after a few minutes it gets annoying for me.
