Yes it was more than very good and remember it coming out of the blue but really welcome. As important Lark's Tongue's... but much "poppier". It's still light years ahead of other Prog Exemplifiers's nineties albums. |

I wish the double trio continued to explore the full potential of the lineup which I felt was only hinted at on this album. I could do without red part II as well, especially since it pops up so f**king much all over the album. I'd rate it at the bottom of the KC discog for me, but still would give it a 3.25/5 ------------- Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

I love KC but I consider Thrak one of their weakest albums. As Larks and Discipline, Thrak inaugurates a new musical phase of the group, and for this reason it is historically important, because it demonstrates the ability of Fripp to reinvent himself, constructing every times a new sound in step with the present, but if I consider the intrinsic average quality of the songs I can't say that Thrak is a record among the best of KC. ------------- Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. I don't have Thrak, but I do have a few live albums from the double trio, and I believe I have heard just about all the songs. There are many great songs indeed, but another great thing to hear from this line-up are the live versions of the 80's songs.
So, if you wanted to hear a bit more exploration from this line-up, perhaps it's the live versions of 80's songs could give you a bit more of the sound they could achieve.
I'm not sure which songs I prefer, if the ones on Thrak or the ones from the 80's line-up... but I do prefer how the double trio plays the songs from the 80's. |

The quartet had something slim and light to it, whereas Thrak is very very weighty. I was a big fan of the Discipline trilogy and miss the quartet but at the same time I am delighted about the development, about the updated sound of Thrak. I'd rate it in their top 5 or 6 probably. Dinosaur is a wonderful song, the music fits the lyrics so perfectly. One of their best. |
