To me, this is one piece of music divided in sections, and hard to choose which is better, since all of them feed the next, and contribute to the story.

In the Cage is the only one that comes close to the greatness of their previous albums.

I hope the person who voted for "silent sorrow in empty boats" realizes that that's the track with just the choral mellotron and not the song that mentions "silent sorrow in empty boats."

Anyway(no pun intended Tongue), not sure what my favorite track is but I voted for "hairless heart." I could have voted for about a half dozen other tunes on any given day. I've always liked that one though and next to "after the ordeal" it's one of their best instrumentals.

Quite hard. Most of the tracks are quality.

I'll go sentimental here to make it easier...I don't think anyone will vote for The Waiting Room..so I will.

Fly on a Windshield. I just wish it was at least twice as long.

Right now, that's the piece of music off this great album that I enjoy the most. Honourable mentions to In the Cage, Chamber of 32 Doors, The Lamia, Lillywhite Lillith..

The Lamia has always been a favorite.
The whole album is fantastic - every bit tells the story.

For Tresspass, I chose White Mountains (Knife and Stagnation follow)
For Nursery, I went for Seven Stones (Musical Box and Salmacis  follow)
Foxtrot Can Utility (Supper and Friday follow)
Selling England, Epping Forest (Moonlit Knight and Ordeal follow)

.... as for the Lamb, the choice was difficult, but I went for Lifeless Packaging (with Windshield, 32 Doors, Waiting Room and Lamia following)

==========

for the upcoming polls, I will choose

Trick: Mad Man Moon (followed by Entangled & Los Endos)
W&W: Rooftops (followed by Vine & Mouse's Night)
ATTWT: Motherlode (followed by Down & Out and Burning Rope)
DukeDuke's Travel (followed by Cul-De-Sac, Heathaze)
Abacrap, I pass (or should I say: I piss)LOL
Shapes: Home By The Sea

f**k the rest. TongueWink

Lots of good ones on this album. I went with In the Cage. Carper Crawlers would probably be second.

About even between the Cage and The Chamber for me, but since no one had voted Chamber, I went with that.

Love the entire album but going for the modest "In the rapids". The lyrics and composition match perfectly together and it is always a delight to listen to.

Sorry for bumpin' this thread but I'm here just to let you know that Lillywhite Lilith is still my favorite track on "Lamb".

Somehow missed this thread first time round. Always going to be Back In N.Y.C. I first heard that on the legendary pirate radio station Radio Caroline in the early 80's. Unlike all mainstream radio in the 80's they had not abandoned prog and often played Yes and Genesis as well as Tull and ELP occasionally. I love that track to death. The weird brilliant stunted drumming (anyone any clue what the time signature is??!), the incredible building keyboard tension and Gabriel's incendiary vocal and lyrics. It was one of those WTF moments and put Genesis well out there and above all the other arty stuff going round. Great album and plenty of golden moments to choose from.

Although I get In The Cage 'winning' I thought it evolved into something greater during the late seventies live shows especially with Collins and Thompson both 'throwing' themselves at it with such great gusto. For me the best thing about the album version is the beginning bit 'I've Got Sunshine In My Stomach..' one of PG's best lyrics and the way he sings it feels very real.

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
