Right now I might just go for "Fly me to the Moon" (I really wish it had been adapted by King Crimson, something between the jazzy style they used with "Bolero" and the studio version of "Starless"), Greensleeves, and The Last Unicorn (by America). |

Some coming to mind Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers To Cross Johnny Clegg - Asimbonanga Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun Arlo Guthrie - The City Of New Orleans Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth Iosonouncane - Carne Janis Joplin - everything she did Kate Havnevik -Sleepless Lou Reed - Almost everything he did Patti Smith - Land and a lot of other songs Red Hot Chili Peppers - Parallel Universes Ska-P - I love this Spanish strongly politically oriented SKA band. Then I think to Dylan, Tom Petty, some Italians like Rino Gaetano who was absolutely non-prog but a genius in particular with lyrics, and again John Mayall, and many bluesmen, the Rolling Stones, Clapton...there's a lot of stuff outside. Some world music i.e. Mori Kante Pagan folk: Omnia and even some newage is surely not bad. When I think of non-prog most beautiful songs, I know I'm missing so much, but the first thing that pops in my head will always be Mika Nakashima...my fav vocalist. Japan has a bad rap for female singers, especially concerning chirpy tones, which is why Mika steers clear from that jive and is such a true standout. She kills me. Tough to choose, but I'll go with "Cry No More". Totally exquisite, the post-Katrina flood mood, the vocals, the superb musicianship. What sucks is the fact that finding the entire song on YouTube is such a pain. But what I can find is total bliss (for me at least). I cherish owning this full deal on vinyl. Also, props to the Bat For Lashes pick. Julia Holter has some doozies too (my newest thing)... |

Bruce Cockburn has written MANY beautiful tunes. Check out the album Salt, Sun and Time. But most of his 70’s works are outstandingly beautiful. Such an underrated artist. |

Hi, Nice ... very nice. And it should also be mentioned that these guys were a part of STACKRIDGE, and they also had some fantastic stuff. I'll take "Fish in a Glass" from the "Mr. Mick" album, and while you were at it, dig that one version of a Beatles song by a band that could do them, and better, sometimes.
