I'll start: [Ego & Deus from Émile Jacotey (1975)] and [Caricatures from Caricatures (1971?)] by Ange, a french prog band which started in 1968. Nevermind. I get it now. You did say or so I guess you want one or the other.
Anyway, I can't really think of anything. I'm a big fan of Banco's "di terra"album but that's not unknown. There aren't really any epic tracks(as in long)on there anyway.

I'll go with the Swedish Bjorn J:Son's Lindh's "Musik från en storstad": By the way, I love lots of French and Italian Prog. I guess Ange is unknown with the general public, but I thought well-known in Prog circles (as is Maneige). ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |

I bought this album ... STRICTLY for the cover and had to get a 2nd one so I could put the cover on the wall. next to it? FLASH's first album, of course. But CB has always been one of my favorite things to play, and if you can handle their first album, it has a magnificent version of LIAR ... I prefer it to 3DOGHAIRS's version! I wanted to add to this list ... but I am not clear as to what the thread really wants ... and thus I have kept myself away from it, but there would be a lot of things I would love to post here, and the two I really like are from FOCUS ... Eruption and then the Hamburger Concerto ... and to give you an idea of how much HC is appreciated, even Rachel Flowers played with an international bunch of folks to do a complete HC ... and just recently I heard some Italian singer doing FOCUS ... and my ohhhh my .... not progressive, but man, is it ever good! Somewhere, both Thijs and Jan are looking in the mirror and going ... wow ... !!! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! yeah sympho prog really isnt my thing... I mean real symphonic prog.. not what this site calls it in large parts which in large part still reflects big groups and the whole 'classic prog = sympho prog' as groups like ELP and Yes were not symphonic... and much of what passes for symphonic simply bores the holy sh*t out of me.... but would put Hamburger Concerto right up there as the best that particular cliche ridden and overcooked branch of prog has to offer. ------------- The Pedro and Micky Experience - When one no longer requires psychotropics to trip |

I don't know about "best," but I was impressed with this song off Duncan Mackay's debut album. LENNY WHITE's "Prince of the Sea" from his incredible 1975 album Venusian Summer is certainly one (the album has only 37 ratings and 7 reviews here on PA). "Poisoned Youth" from ENGLAND's 1977 album Garden Shed is another. "Huascaran I" from FERMATA's 1977 album Huascaran also qualifies. I've also become quite a fan of the three epics on Gilli Smyth's MOTHER GONG Fairy Tales--especially "Wassilissa"--great music to accompany Gilli's excellent storytelling. (Thanks BaldJean!) As for an epic that comes specifically from the RPI sub-genre, I'd have to promote the two side-long epics from LA COSCIENZA DI ZENO's 2015 masterpiece, La notte anche di giorno: "Madre Antica" and "Giovane Figlia"
