Probably Dance on a Volcano or Squonk, guess I'll vote for Squonk. Obviously really good album.

Can you give every song on the album 10 out of 10?

Entangled I guess. On this one my favourite ones are the poppier ones: Entangles, Squonk, and Trick of the Tail.

"Ripples" for me, although I prefer Annie Haslam's version on the Genesis tribute album, "Supper's Ready" Smile

all of them, except maybe Squonk (it was an early fave, but I grew tired of it quite quickly)
I went for the TT, but I felt that RA&B gets a vote as well.

TOTT is an amazingly even album, with no real weak points.

I like that, and will always love Annie's voice, but no way do I prefer that to the original.

As far as Genesis covers from this great album go, I also really like this, but again it can't touch the original.

Yes, it's indeed a hard choice, but Ripples also gets my vote, because of Hackett's excellent guitar playing. The rest are also magnificent.

Entangled. After that, Squonk, Ripples (beautiful version by Annie!), Trick of the Tail.

The only weakness on the album for me is that Dance On A Volcano and Los Endos were not knitted together like they were in the live shows. The ending of Dance On A Volcano (studio) is especially weak. The title track and Robberry, Assault and Battery are also slightly below the level of the other songs . I voted Squonk as I think I did the last time this was done. Mad Man Moon , Ripples and Entangled are also brilliant tracks of course but not as powerful to my ears.

My fav Genesis album.  Maybe the best album by any group after losing their lead singer.  Dance on a Volcano is a great way to announce to the world that you're still here and better than ever.

Not better than the original but wow, that is really good.  I don't know Haslam's work.  Something I need to check out.

For me it's between Dance and Entangled, but since I am a die-hard fan of volcano climbing, I have to do the Dance on a Volcano. I had that song playing outloud during the final attack on my 37th volcano climbed in my home country (Guatemala)

While I didn't vote for it I actually like "robbery, assault and battery" and can't understand why only one vote(or why so many seem to dislike it so much). That mellotron break on that track is really good and one of their best imo.

exactly...take away the outro and I guess Squonk might be my favorite.  But then part of why I like Squonk is the way it follows the outro in Entangled!

so true and Banks said he thought it was his favorite song on the album even though he wrote Mad Man Moon alone---Entangled is always the song I hear and think why can't Steve and Tony collaborate again?

Los Endos second.

Entangled over Mad Man Moon. I love the guitar lead in Ripples, but not too much the rest of the song. Los Endos needed to be longer.

Collins in 'mockney gangster' mode maybe?

Musically, RA&B is great, but Collin's comedy cockney performance is fairly embarrassing IMO, although I have heard Genesis do far worse when it comes to 'comedy' tracks. Illegal Alien springs to mind, which would probably register somewhere in my top 20 worst pop songs of all time.

I actually don't mind RA&B, and some of the instrumental parts are superb. I never skip it, put it that way.

I guess I never really paid that close attention to that part but it doesn't really bother me. He was trained in the theater as a kid so I suppose that part comes out every so often. I don't think it's something worth being offended by unless Phil Collins actually said somewhere "I don't like people with cockney accents."

You should check Renaissance. I do love them. Their sound is sort of folkis, I guess, with some very beautiful piano too (besides Annies singing, of course), and lot's or orchestrations. Very little or no electric guitars and synths, though (which is part of what makes them great, in my book). My first album from them, and the one I would recommend also, is Live at Carnegie Hall. It's got just my favourite songs on my favourite versions.

Would be funny if he did say that but probably not. Actually it doesn't bother me that much but just stops me from taking it that seriously even if the drums are great on it (but they are on most of the album)

Today I pick Squonk. Great rhythm and that fantastic melody kicking in at 1:45, it always moves me.
Most of these songs need to grow a pair though

That's why I tend to skip that track, musically good otherwise.

BOT, yes, great album, not so keen on RA&B (why did Genesis somehow always seem to manage at least one poor track per album?), so maybe Squonk today....

I agree, and I'd vote for YES twice for replacing their lead singer Jon Anderson a second time for their 2011 album  "Fly From Here", when Benoit David did a sterling job as lead singer. Smile

So many great songs to choose from. My favorite Genesis album and the one that made me a die-hard fan. That said, I must go with Entangled. With Steve and Tony collaborating it is their best by far. Too bad they didn't do more together. What might have been . . . Cry

Los Endos pointless?

It's broadly regarded as being among their best tracks. You're entitled to think what you want of course, but in what way is it pointless?

Yep that does seem a strange comment although I much prefer it when they knitted it together with Dance On A Volcano on those great live shows from 1976 through to 80.

Dance on a Volcano is one of my favorite Genesis songs. Its energetic but really subtle in its complexity. I never thought about how complex it was until I watched this video.

Yep! Agree. The live versions I've heard are all superior to the studio version, although it is a great closer to the album.
