My vote:
01. Supper's Ready (4.5 points)
02. The Cinema Show (3 points)
03. Firth of Fifth (2 points)
I think the first two are self-explanatory. The battle for third spot is quite fierce since I really adore a bunch of shorter pieces too. In the end, Firth of Fifth is my favorite guitar solo to exercise so I spent much more time with this one. It gets the nod!

My vote
1 - Suppers Ready (4.5 points) 2 - Firth of Fifth (3 points) 3 - One for the Vine (2 points)
Suppers Ready is my favourite prog epic of all time, and ultimately my top Genesis choice.
Firth of Fifth - From the brilliant Tony Banks piano intro to Hackett's best guitar solo, to the mind blowing live performances (with or without Gabriel) it's simply classic Genesis.
One for the Vine is full of rich melody, and oozes melancholy and drama in equal measure. It's one of Banks' finest compositions, and one of the best Collins era prog epics.
------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Watcher of the Skies
The Return of the Giant Hogweed
Get 'em out by Friday
For the first places I prefer shorter songs; it has to be perfect! (something more difficult to achieve on longer songs).
'Watcher..' has it all: dynamic, alien tempo, a rocker, an emblematic album opener, love the lyrics, and I think it has some 'magic' on it.

Three favourite Genesis songs from three different albums:-
1. Firth of Fifth (4.5 points)
2. Watcher of the Skies (3 points)
3. The Musical Box (2 points)
I wonder why 4.5 points for first place though. Why not just round it up to 5 points?

If anything it should be a straight 2,3,4. If it were 2,3,5 then every 1st placed song getting 5 would outweigh every 2nd and 3rd placed song combined and thus make having a three song ranking system pointless. E.g 5 x 2 = 10, 3 x 2 = 6. Even with one more vote that is only 9. So percentage wise, any 2nd placed song would need to be very much more popular than the most popular 1st placed song in order to get anywhere and that is illogical because in that case it would be most voters 1st placed song. With 4.5 the 2nd placed songs still have a chance if there are enough votes 4.5 x 2 = 9 3 x 2 = 6 And that difference of 3 is just one vote. 3 x 3 = 9
It's all in the magic of numbers :)

Basically agree with your reasoning. 5, 3, 2 is too much lopsided in favor of #1s.
4, 3, 2 - I will consider it if more posters strongly vouch for this one... but in my humble opinion, 4.5 is a bit better, because two #1 votes shouldn't be outweighed by three #2 votes. Current point system, with 4.5 figure, seems like a sweet spot. But as I said, I'm open to discuss it; changing the Excel sheet takes a second or two.

1. Supper's Ready 2. Firth of Fifth 3. Carpet Crawlers

Supper's Ready does have the advantage of being a side-long prog epic at 23 minutes long.

The length itself doesn't mean much - but some voters might feel it's more fitting to reward longer songs as they are usually more complex and awe-inspiring. I think the illusion of grandeur and talent is much stronger in 20+ minutes long pieces. Nevertheless, Supper's Ready is truly deserving of its praise, in my opinion.
