BTW there's a free phone app called meme generator that makes making your own custom memes reallt easy. I fixed up one already posted. Loved the John Zorn one. It would also work for Buckethead. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

A lot of memes aren't funny. Of course what is funny to one person might not be funny to another, but I mean not intended to be funny, and I know what I did with captions was not a meme proper nor funny (mine was based on the LOL cats phenomenon). The thing about memes is that they spread widely across the internet or throughout culture, have replicative qualities, get modified through replication, and convey sociocultural information, or units of information.. The term came from Richard Dawkins from his book The Selfish Gene. It's based on the word mimetic, so it implies imitation and representation. It's a cultural, and genetic, transmission that gets duplicated and modified. They spread rather like a virus. Memes are nothing new, but it took on certain forms across the web.
