I have watched the music video with Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush called "Don´t Give Up" and i find Kate´s voice very uplifting and beautiful. Now, i know that she has made quite some solo albums with very good reviews, but i still want to ask... What album/song should i try first - which ones do you guys think is her masterpiece and must-have in a prog collection? I tend to favour her debut album, The Kick Inside, but I see Hounds of Love as her masterpiece, and "The Ninth Wave" suite, which is the B side of the album, as her masterpiece, or master pieces one might say, from it. So, I recommend trying Hounds of Love, but I like all of her albums to some extent, and love most of them. Some of my favourite Kate Bush songs: "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" (I find this gorgeous). "Wow" (this wowed me when I was a teenager) "CLoudbusting" (love it) "And Dream of Sheep" (so beautiful) "The Fog" (a highlight of her career for me) "Rocket's Tail' (A rockin' number with David Gilmour on guitar) 'Moving" "Breathe" I like her more modern material as well. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |

Awesome! I am gonna try out "Hounds of Love" for sure... There´s plenty material from her on youtube. Thanks a lot. And i had no idea that Gimour had contributed on one of her songs - he is a master of the guitar, so probably something that i would dig! Again, thanks! The Dreaming is amazing, quite dark and experimental. I would start with Hounds though. ------------- |

I recommend "The Kick Inside" and "the Dreaming", both are masterpieces but very different albums. But all of her albums are at least good! BTW Gilmour was the one who "found" her and recommended her to EMI.

The Ninth Wave on Hounds of Love is the one most prog fans will love. I love it too, but my number one is certainly The Dreaming, wild, crazy and most experimental. And then Never For Ever, probably her most rounded and consistent album with some fantastic melodies and some clear hints to progressive territory (Breathing!). The first two have some marvellous moments but overall in my opinion don't reach the next three... actually four, The Sensual World is also classy (and can rival Never For Ever in consistency), 50 Words for Snow is a very unique atmospheric album, Aerial is very good and The Red Shoes should not be easily dismissed either. Buy them all and you won't regret it... |

I don't know much about Kate Bush, but Gilmour was actually sort of the one who discovered her and helped her get signed, by helping her record and paying for her first demos, and sending them to the right people. |

Not really mentioned yet but Aerial is also a great album...but get the reissue. There is a vital difference in that her son Bertie takes over the part that was originally played by a now disgraced (and imprisoned) ex painter/comedian/musician. Most of her work is worth checking out. Even the Red Shoes which I find a bit weaker than her other albums has one of her best songs Moments Of Pleasure.

| The only album I liked from start to finish was Never For Ever, maybe Hounds of Love was mostly good, but over time I did get bored of those LP’s and no longer own them. But that’s just me. |

All Kate's material is tops! To extend the web outwards, she also guested on 2 Roy Harper lps- 'The Unknown Soldier' and 'Once' both with Dave Gilmour... The duet on 'You' (the Game part 3) is sublime. Roy did backing vocals on 'Breathing' on 'Never forever'... ------------- |

I am going to check out all of her discography during the next week! So far, i am really hooked on her song "The Big Sky" from "Hounds of Love" which you guys suggested! Initially, i´d say that from what i have heard so far, she seems to be more poppish than progressive, but I will come back later and probably write a review also! Cheers guys and remember to always keep it progressive!

She's definitely poppish. I'd call her an art pop artist first, and would say that she's more progressive pop than properly progressive rock. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. The Dreaming It's my fave Kate album and to me is the most unique and comes closest to being "progressive" of the lot. The album that came before it, Never For Ever, is another great album (my 2nd fave). Hounds of Love is the highest rated Kate album here on PA with a rating of 4.14 (followed very closely by The Dreaming rated at 4.12, and Never For Ever at 3.97). I'd start with those three (in chronological order) if you want to focus on the most "progressive" albums. All her stuff is great, though, to one degree or another (I have all her studio releases).
Oh yes. Red Shoes good quality art pop music which is far better than the stuff you hear on the radio. I think its rating is lower here on PA 'cause it isn't really Prog, but man.....it's good stuff if you like to venture out into not so proggy material sometimes. Aerial and 50 Words both have fantastic imagery (just like the rest of her stuff whether it's art pop, art rock/prog or whatever. Quality is quality regardless of labels. |

| For a prog fan, Hounds of Love is a must. She started getting more adventurous and less poppy from Never For Ever onwards so anything after that is fine. The first 2 albums are bit poppier but still good. |

Back in 1978 she was as adventurous as anything out there. Seems she was always interested in progressive music and Peter Gabriel looks to have been a big influence on her. The Dreaming is her 'difficult' album just the same as PG3 . But of course prog fans enjoy this. The Hounds Of Love was really 2 separate albums (3 if you get the reissue with the extra bonus tracks) with a pop side and a proper full blown art rock suite (Ninth Wave) Sadly she hasn't been so forthcoming with DVD's. Still no DVD of the Hammersmith shows and no official collection of her 'hits' which is a real shame as she also pushed the boundaries visually as well. check this out as well |

I've long given up waiting for the DVD of the last tour. There was an official "greatest hits" video compilation as I used to have it on VHS (I always loved the video of Cloudbusting with Donald Sutherland). I've never looked for it on DVD/BluRay as I have an 'unofficial' collection I got on eBay.
