It's hard to choose from these great albums. But just edging it for me is the Gentle Giant run.

Great though Gentle Giant are, no trio of albums by anyone matches that trio from Camel.

There's one from each I either haven't heard or my copy skips so much I feel like I haven't heard it, so I'll vote based on the two from each I have heard:
GG - Octopus and In A Glass House are both consistently fun and perplexing, with extremely catchy passages that double as extremely weird and difficult to reproduce ones. Both would vie for my favorite GG album any day.
Camel - The Snow Goose I've only heard once but I know it's a masterpiece based on that. Just beautiful beautiful music with many changing moods and unique motifs. Moonmadness on the other hand I find just okay. Some songs are really good, others just kinda leave me cold. I've listened to it many times and still find I get lost in the tracklist. I'm also not really a fan of how it starts. Track 2 is a much better piece to my ears.
It'll be Gentle Giant for me.
------------- Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Yes, nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say, and Cristi warned me in advance that I probably wouldn't acquire the taste for Gentle Giant, so I wasn't too disappointed by them when my expectations were already low to begin with. On a positive note though, at least I'll be able to take part in Gentle Giant polls from now on, including this one.

I only knew that a band like Gentle Giant is not your thing, not your kind of band. Therefore your so called "low expectations" make no sense to me.

I like Three Friends more than I like Mirage, I like The Snow Goose more than I like Octopus, and I like Moonmadness more than I like In a Glass House, so Camel edges out Gentle Giant in this one, but it's close.

You're a pretty good judge of what kind of music I like by now and my preconceived low expectations of Gentle Giant came from having seen part of the BBC Sight & Sound concert from 1978 some time ago and having been less than impressed by them, I never listened to any Gentle Giant albums until yesterday. So there you go. It all makes perfect sense now, or maybe not, as the case may be.

Gotta go with Gentle Giant here, although personally I would have preferred to have Power and the Glory in the trio rather than Three Friends

Easily Camel.
My Gentle Giant trio would be Octopus/In a Glass House/The Power and the Glory (my favorite).
Even so I would choose Camel.

The first two by both bands (in that run) are great but then IAGH just leaves me cold. If it was TPATG I would feel very different. Camel on the other hand did a perfect album run that for me is the best by any band of any genre.

I love all. I rated all with 5 stars. But, I need to go with Gentle Giant. It has a more adventurous and innovative prog sound.

Gentle Giant, but there's not a lot in it. In general I agree that GG were more adventurous musically, but David Bedford's orchestral arrangements for The Snow Goose showed a more exploratory side to Camel.

I only knew that a band like Gentle Giant is not your thing, not your kind of band. Therefore your so called "low expectations" make no sense to me. | This forum is probably littered with people who now love Gentle Giant but who did not get on with them on first hearing, and I’d include myself in that number. Of course nobody is obliged to like them, but “I listened to them once and didn’t like it, so I’ll sh*t-rate them in polls forevermore” is a bit of a…superficial…approach.

Camel for me. If it had been the first 3 GG albums I might have had a more difficult time deciding, but still it should have been Camel.
