Haven't heard all of these but I like Big Generator so that gets my vote.

I don't generally listen to 'bad' albums so I don't have many of these. I really don't like Gilmour - About Face at all. The Pink Floyd - More album is pretty good if you are into that era, there's a bunch of good stuff on it. That gets my vote.

The only two I really have any affection at all for are Floyd and Rush. Rush, barely, but I do actually really quite like More. I wasn’t even aware anyone thought it was a bad enough album to qualify as “not actually bad”. It’s not a particularly well known album in the Floyd discography, but I thought it was pretty well appreciated by those who do know it? 🤷🏻‍♂️

it's one of the lower rated PF albums here on PA.
One of my favorites from Pink Floyd. Smile

None of the albums in the poll I find as "bad", but many others do. Also a couple of albums in the poll have a bad reputation, undeservingly I dare say (Big Generator, Slaves and Masters).

I thought Michael Jackson was Bad, but Weird Al Yankovic is Even Worse! Tongue

By the way, am I supposed to vote for the "baddest" (ie. least favourite) album in the poll, or the album I like the most of all? Ermm

The poll question is "What's your favorite out of these?"
What is your difficulty here? Confused

Sorry, I missed that. My favourite is David Gilmour and least favourite is Gentle Giant, obviously. Wink

I don't know all of these and those I know are OKish. More has some very good bits, and I'm wondering whether I should support Manfred Mann for his, let's say, far from diabolical album, as chances are nobody else will do that, but the most honest vote would probably go to Camel even though this isn't anywhere near great. It has Ice though.

First vote for Emerson, Lake & Powell's self-titled.

You Can say that I want More

In other words, the Pink Floyd for me.

EDIT: And to be more suitably relevant, a favourite of mine off More: Cirrus Minor

^ It was Can's "I Want More", I edited to another video embed of the same song, and added a Pink Floyd.

I'm giving a spin to my old Slaves And Masters vynil, and guess what: it's not actually bad, at all . The other albums aren't bad either, but underrated maybe.

Went with Presto here. Not my favorite Rush album but defiantly had some good moments.
Love Available Light, wonderful little hidden gem on that album.

I find most of these enjoyable albums, although not near the masterpieces these artists are known for. My favorite is probably About Face by David Gilmour. ELPowell, Big Generator, and Presto also get regular play.

Obviously not as progressive as most of their previous albums, but Gentle Giant's "Civilian" is a solid set of songs and very well played. I saw them perform on the 1980 tour for this album, and they were still in peak form and mixed both new and old pieces seamlessly.  It a shame that this band was not a success financially, because they were unique, talented, and very tuneful.

Second vote for the Emerson, Lake, and Powell album. Nothing against Carl Palmer, but this album is one of my all-time favorites.

My second choice from this list would be Manfred Mann's Criminal Tango. It's not as good as Watch or Chance, but it's still a very solid album, especially "Side One".

Agree. I would rank it as a good album, especially for 1980. "Not actually bad album" is an insult for "Civilian".

I don't feel qualifed to vote, and I don't feel like doing an effort to qualify as there's a handul of albums here that I suspect will be a huge waste of listening time - and my life really. But isn't More kind of great? I Can See You're House From Here is mostly very nice as well.

Don't take it as an insult, Civilian is a good album, I've always liked it.
I meant "not actually bad" in a positive way, as in "worth it".

I really enjoy most of these albums, so it was hard to vote for one in particular. At the end, I voted for Camel.

More is on the bottom of my PF studio albums ranking, but still pretty good. However, About Face gets my vote. In the context of a "not actually bad year", this is an outstanding album,

I guess if my honesty comes across as rude, yes. I've never been among those that feel an obligation to thorougly listen to Tangerine Dreams 1997 album Ambient Monkeys (1:73 rating on RYM and 1:70 at PA), simply because I love classics like Phaedra, Rubycon etc... I've sort of been burned-or forewarned while giving slightly less universally panned releases such as Lily on the Beach and Melrose a chance.

I don't particularly enjoy Brain Salad Surgery or Tarkus so I won't ever listen to Love Beach. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". I'm not insane.

-Except for Civillian which I've heard, and didn't find much to enjoy - I've been turned off by far more critically acclaimed albums that I've actually checked out by the rest of the bands in the poll. So I'm only moderatly interested in them in the first place.

ELPowell - great album - put it against what their contemporaries were doing in the 80s...

I have revisited More thanks to the wonderful Nick Mason tour.  That comes second.

I voted Rush: Presto, purely because I don't think it is a bad album at all. Admittedly, it was when their love affair with synthesisers was at a height, which dates it to a specific period, but a lot of the songs are great.

Otherwise, I would have voted for Eloy: Destination, which really isn't that bad either. I'm not sure whether forum members either think it's a bad album or they just haven't heard it, which is why it's stuck on '0' still, but even though it's far from classic Eloy, as an album in it's own right, it's quite respectable.

Deep Purple's Slaves & Masters on the other hand is fairly abject....

As some don't understand why More even qualifies to be listed here, I say that although I have no problems with that album, I indeed don't think it's particularly strong as an overall listen. There are some four or so tracks on it that I really like, but overall it has this "soundtrack effect" with quite a bit of stuff that serves the soundtrack purpose in the first place (I've never seen that film so I don't know how well it works there), but is not (at least for me) particularly interesting or worthwhile as a standalone listen. If an album has 50-60% of such stuff, it's no reason really to criticise it (it's OK for soundtracks to be like that), but it will be nowhere near the better albums of that band in my personal appreciation.
