Ngl, the news was a bit heartbreaking for me.

Mike Pinder made the Moodies sound; no Mike, no Moodies imo

How not to be in a 'moody' mood after reading such a news ?

The Guy who brought the Mellotron into the rock fray.
Thank You for all your dreamlike sounds
That an evanescent wave of white satin takes you to the lands of endless peace.

That and "When You're a Free Man" are two of his best I think!

So sad. What an icon. One of the prime movers in bringing the Chamberlin/Mellotron to rock music. And a great songwriter to boot!

^Not only that but his spoken word parts added something rather unique to the music as well. RIP Mike.

Sad news indeed. May he rest in peace. A true genius who sometimes has been under appreciated. My condolences to his family, friends and family.

I can't count the number of times Mr. Pinders' spoken words have rolled around in my head over the decades...

Really sad news, Mellotron pioneer, wordsmith and last of the original Moodies. RIP Mike

Mike Pinder for me was one of the true giants of the dawning of prog. He was capable of making a notoriously finnicky instrument bend to his will, as well as being a great songwriter and vocalist.

When he left the Moody's they stopped being the Moody Blues as far as I'm concerned.

RIP

No, Mike Pinder's work with the Chamberlin keyboard!  He replicated the sound of a sailor's harmonium perfectly!

He was one of the true founders of Progressive Rock and a sad, sad loss. Cry Listened to Seventh Sojourn in memorium. The atmospheres he created on that album are simply sublime. My favorite song of his has to be Melancholy Man from A Question of Balance. My deepest condolences go out to his friends and family.
