Subject: Our Anticipated Albums of 2025

What are some albums you are looking forward to that are expected to be released in 2025?

The big one for me that is included in PA that I know about is Swans' Birthing. There is no release date set yet that I have found but it already has been mixed and Gira was hoping for a fairly early 2025 release. Gira has said that it will be the last "big sound" Swans album, and then there should be a big ensemble tour by the end of the year.

Here is a version of the song "Birthing" done in 2023 for BBC radio. Michaal Gira does not actually give birth during the set.

Some other albums that I am interested in for 2025 releases are Squid's Cowards (set for February 7, 2025), apparently a Black Country, New Road album, and Richard Dawson's (not of Family Feud or The Running Man) End of the Middle. Anna von Hausswolff is set to release an album called The music from Atlas Song, but I have seen a bit of the live (a song originally off Dead Magic) and I don't plan to get the release. From https://atc-live.com/artist/anna-von-hausswolff/" rel="nofollow - https://atc-live.com/artist/anna-von-hausswolff/

"In August 2024, she [Anna von Hausswolff] premiered Atlas Song, a collaboration with choreographers Imre and Marne van Opstal, blending dance and live music in a groundbreaking performance. The music from Atlas Song will be released as an album in 2025."

Not in PA: I have read that Joanna Newsom (was surprised she didn't get added to PA) is expected to release an album this year (that would be other most anticipated album now). Eartheater and Perfume Genius are set to release albums and am interested in those acts. I have read that Boards of Canada may finally release another album (purportedly a follow-up to 2013's Tomorrow's Harvest, but the same has been said over the past couple of years. Love to see it come to fruition.

Steven Wilson's Overview I expect to make a splash at PA in 2025, but I never got very into his music. That might change....

EDIT: Jim Smith (Tim Smith's brother) of Cardiacs mentioned that Cardiacs' LSD might finally be released in 2025 (April) and had been mixed. The story of the album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD_%28Cardiacs_album%29" rel="nofollow - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD_(Cardiacs_album) Cardiacs E.P. is being officially released (Alphabet Business Concern) on January 25, 2025. https://alphabet-business-concern.bandcamp.com/album/cardiacs-e-p" rel="nofollow - https://alphabet-business-concern.bandcamp.com/album/cardiacs-e-p

At the moment, the three that I am most anticipating are the new IQ album, the new Pattern-Seeking Animals album and the return of Mike Portnoy to Dream Theater.

yep with that in mind they have a bunch of European gigs lined up for next year across the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Italy and Poland. The ones in February at the Met in Bury are already sold out. In addition they are also playing 2 gigs in Canada and also Cruise To The Edge as well as the New Day Festival next August in Kent. (they also have their traditional Xmas bash at Zoetermeer (Netherlands) this weekend and Islington the following weekend with maybe a first sneek preview of the new album for those lucky fans)

New Devin Townsend.
New Echolyn.
New Live album by Riverside.
New Ulver.
New anything from any band that I like that hasn't released anything in a while...although, sometimes, they turn out to be disappointments.

I wouldn't be surprised if Neal Morse comes up with two or three new releases under different monikers! LOL
Always tough to catch up with him.
Some bands/artists on my list with highly anticipated new albums include Steven Wilson, IQ, and really hoping to see something new from Spock's Beard. Furthermore, it would be interesting to get something new by Mastodon or The Mars Volta. I would also like to see a newer, younger band rise to prominence with a progressive sound, doesn't really matter what genre that would be coming from! So hopes are high for 2025, as this year was full of tremendous releases.

Funny you should say that, I saw a post on Facebook from Neal today revealing that he's putting the finishing touches to a collaboration with former Genesis live drummer Chester Thompson.

William D. Drake has released two songs in 2024. I'd hope he has enough new material to release an album in 2025.

Me too of course. I love his new material and he is a favourite of mine. In this recent interview (see https://budsandspawn.co.uk/a-quick-chat-with-william-d-drake/" rel="nofollow - https://budsandspawn.co.uk/a-quick-chat-with-william-d-drake/ ), Drake wrote:

Obiymy Doschu (Ukraine).   Their 2017 album, "Son" is fourth in the 2017 rankings. I'm hoping for a Masterpiece from this band.Wink

I don't usually follow bands from outside my country.
So, I only know, besides some that had already been mentioned, about:
- Maestrick.
- Psychotic Apes.
- probably Tempus Fugit.
- and maybe Quarto Sensorial.
I'm hoping Maestrick and Quarto Sensorial could soon release more material, which they are in fact producing. Dogma is trying to compose and rehearsal for a new album, but if it really sees the light of day, it's unlikely to occur at 2025.
Ary.

^We'll definitely get one very soon. Apparently the sessions for the last album produced 10 MORE tracks, with these one being backed by an orchestra. A single from that album was already released in October. So it's probably almost, if not completely, finished with post-production by now.

^ I'm beginning to get interested in them so will certainly give it a listen or three (and I liked the last one). In general I'm expecting a slow year. I think the boom times have happened. Generally the world is plunging into recession and becoming more unstable and that's never good for music. Vinyl pressing plants (at least those in the UK) are closing down and CD's are now produced more to order (there is some evidence for this). I'm not optimistic about anything much obviously!

Thanks so much for the mention! Very proud of the upcoming album, hope you're not disappointed. :)

As for me, I'm most looking forward to “The Deep End” by Pain of Salvation. Date TBA but seems like there's good progress recently! And outside of prog, looking forward to a new one from Deftones.

^ Yes I am aware and puchased the MP3 directly from their website (you can also get the CD from there). You can also buy a High Res download off Bandcamp but it seemed a bit expensive which is why I went for the lower quality and cheaper download option. It's an okay album but at this point they are no longer a proper band, basically it's Steve Babb plus a bunch of other guys. I would actually warn people off it who are expecting the heavier sound of the last 4 albums. It's lighter and very melodic and similar to the Three Cheers For The Broken Hearted album which I love but is generally considered a low note in their back catalogue.

I neglected to mention, despite it being mentioned to be via PM by a member to me before, that Stereolab will be releasing a new album on May 23, 2025. It is called Instant Holograms on Metal Film. I just logged into youtube and something from it was the top recommendation for me. And I see that Stereolab is coming to Vancouver again for concert in October. Plan to snag tickets quite soon as Stereolab does sell out.

It's one of my favourite bands.

EDIT: good thing I managed to snack tickets this early. Tier one already was sold out and had to pay for the rather more expensive tier two. It ever annoys me how much all the extra charges here very significantly put up the ticket prices...
