Hi All,
I picked up the flute about a year ago and am using musescore to put together some sheet music of the flute parts of prog songs that you won't find out there. Is there a forum/group on this site where we can post to share to some people? Would anyone be interested in seeing some sheet music of prog songs?
I am not seeing a way to upload an image so I reckon I could post them to an old blog site that I have and then insert a link to them.

I'll take a look at it. I'm a mediocre flautist who might enjoy some sight reading. A couple years ago, Downbeat magazine printed out Ian McDonald's flute solo to "I Talk to the Wind". I also play keyboards and was trying to play that Moog/Mellotron break in Close to the Edge, if you have the melody and chord changes to that one I'd love to check that out. Actually, just the melody would be good because I think I have the chord changes already.

I bought a flute some years ago but I've never practiced it seriously so I'm less than a beginner. The maximum that I have obtained is the flute part of Rhayader (but very poorly). If you have any score to share for a beginner I'll be happy to try it. Uploading images is quite tricky here, unless you try a simple copy/paste here on the forum. With the album covers it works.

thanks. I added some prog flute sections to this thread. I tried to make them as exact as I could but I suspect I may have some mistakes with the timing and rests. You'll have to listen to the song on youtube and then play for best results.

Some may say this is not prog but I kind of consider it to be prog. It's from the soundtract to "Valerie and her week of wonders" which is a bizarro cult film from 1970 which has a beautiful chamber/pastoral like soundtract.

Maybe not prog but it's Ennio Morriconi who influenced prog bands. I slightly modified this to take out some of the more fancier parts that Simeon was doing to make the song simpler. You'll see.

Camel Elke
This song is all over the map so I'm not sure what key the original is in. This song does not seem to stay in a particular key but it's still a beautiful complex flute solo.

It's not flute but I love the Oboe section in King Crimson's Bolero. Part 2 coming soon.
The late Robin Miller did the oboe solo in Bolero by King Crimson. It's such a beautiful piece. I came across this site that has some of his other oboe pieces.

That sounds great. I don't have it though :-( If I run across it, I will most surely post it.
That's great that you play keys!!

^ Here is the first part of the break, I'll put the chords in CAPS and the melody notes that go with that chord in small letters.
D - a b G - d e f# g F - g f a g G - b a b c F - b a g e C - c b g e
Also, I like that Robin Miller oboe melody.

I'm glad to hear that :-)
BTW, my sheet music may not be perfect. I may have a few mistakes here and there. I basically listen to the song and record the notes I hear. I may even have some of the time signatures wrong but I think they're ok.
if you notice any mistakes, please let me know.
thanks
I may do a Tull song or some italian prog song.
I may do this one by Tull soon.

Scroll down to page 76 in this issue of Downbeat and there is Ian MacDonald's solo on "I Talk to the Wind". The analysis of the solo starts on page 75.

Hi,
I think I'm gonna post the flute scripts for some PDQ Bach pieces. These here are silly and not worth listening until you get a PDQ Bach pill!
If you dare, that is! Some folks can't handle kazoos!
