I saw Jakko with the King in Chicago, and was VERY impressed with both his guitar playing and vocals!!

Hoping it's true! I've seen old posts about a rumored new KC album in 2007 that never panned out. Until I see something directly from Fripp or DGM I'll try not to get too excited.

Hi,

I don't exactly think of KC as a Picasso that continues to come up with new things in his work, because he got bored with the last painting and wanted to do something else.

As much as they are a special band in my book and time, living with the expectation that God will have a new word for us to believe is ... a bit over the top! And KC and a lot of older bands, might have one more album, or idea going, but sadly, this takes away from the many other folks that are doing really good and original work and deserve a listen.

I doubt they can do something "new" and different. New and different for KC has almost always been a new line up and new ideas , and in this case, I imagine that it will be the same folks and old ideas ... and expecting it to be "new music", is not likely to happen as far as I can see. ... don't forget the mellotron!!!

This is TREMENDOUS news and most welcomed.

@Pedro - I would politely suggest waiting until the music is actually released before dumping on it.

Last Crimson album was TPTB which had Fripp, Belew, Mastellotto & Gunn so this will certainly be a new studio album line up, and new music is not a zero sum game, this release would not cut into new band listening.

I love the Chicago live album and Jakkos singing and guitar playing were excellent. The old material was fantastic. The Monkey Mind newer songs (radical action etc) were just ok and in my view had a ‘lyrics problem’.   Scarcity of miracles was a good easy listening album but it didn’t even remind me of King Crimson. Like a different act altogether. I’m curious who will be writing the new material, and I hope it’s not too ‘reality laden’. I always liked the fantasy abstract KC (I think you know what I mean) I can’t wait!! I wonder if Jeremy is a songwriter?   And how cool would it be if Belew could drop in for a song or two? And if Mel lays some horns down it’s sure to be good.

Given Robert’s age and health scare they may not be able to tour this new album.

Hi,

Of course I will listen to it ... you must think I'm crazy or doped up ... not yet though doctor keeps trying!

It's not a criticism of the band at all ... it is a good look at their history as when the folks changed things became something else. This big line up with the 3 drummers, is really good musically, and playing all the older stuff, but I don't know that we will have the feeling of the great changes that brought on some far out stuff.

Remains to be seen, but I will still think, until I hear it, that anything new won't be that great or special ... regardless, we will all listen to it and comment, but you know ... every time I visit the siblings or anyone related to the family they are always ... not better. It is very cool that (more than likely) all the folks involved might make it special, but, really ... after 55+ years, and the incredible amount of work we love dearly ... one more?

Let's throw the Tarot and see, shall we?

I was at peace with the way I thought Crim were ending with the final tour, it was a nice way to go out. So this news is icing on the cake. As for sonic evolution, I feel as if most Crim albums reflect that and I would expect nothing less with any new material.

At first this sounded like clickbait to me, the thought of a new King Crimson albums sounds too good to be true (they ended seemingly for good several years ago and Fripp is 79 as of now). I wouldn't get excited until Fripp confirms this.

I wouldn't mind a final album if it ends the band's career on a high note.

Let’s hope for the best. Something tells me they will be very aware of that sentiment amongst fans. I just hope they don’t include “radical action” and “excuse for the blues” ( I cannot remember the exact name of the song atm ) . Since they covered them on monkey mind already.

My favorite prog /Rock band of all time no matter what. A legacy of great (and very interesting) music.

Hey come on it's not even April fool's yet. You are nine months too early.

Anyway, if it's not a joke I findi this weird because I thought that not only did they stop touring but I thought they disbanded altogether. I suppose Fripp and company are the Jason's and Michael Myers of prog though.

After the Beat tour and the heart scare I think it lit a fire. Also the way the world is, it seems like the darkness that Crimson seems to feed on has grown far too much to ignore. Exciting news, even if I prefer the 70's stuff.

This is exciting news, and it being King Crimson, I am curious as to what it will sound like. Even if it sounds like some older version of the band, I look forward to hearing it.

When I properly discovered that I liked prog (around 2001?) I bought ITCOTCK and listened to it quite a lot, but I’ve never listened to anything else of theirs! Two questions:

1 Am I stupid?!
2 What should I try next?😂

1. No
2. Red or Islands from the 70's era. Discipline from the Belew era. In terms of compilations, you might try The Young Person's Guide from 1976, or any of the excellent compilation albums, including Cirkus (live) as detailed here on PA.

Nice, I didn't expect this. Though I do believe if one band can come back with the spark that made them famous, that's King Crimson.

Gotta say, I wouldn't bet the farm either on it or against it, and the "wet blanket" hasn't changed much about that.

It's gonna happen or not, and I only believe it when it's actually out, but that there is at least a bit of hope is nice.
