I think these guys may fit fine into Neo. There's a bunch of songs from their recent (and only) album on the Tube, here's one I like:

I also found this BIO in their homepage, https://somethingelsemusic.net/biography/" rel="nofollow - https://somethingelsemusic.net/biography/

For us, “keeping prog music alive” is not just a motto. We grew up with this music in the 70s, followed the prog bands of the second wave in the 80s and wrote our own music in that style during the same period. We were striving to modernize that music and add our own twist to it, just like bands like Marillion did. Today, we still want to stay at the forefront of prog as it keeps evolving and we still want to share that passion with prog fans in recordings and on stage.

bySomethingELSE was originally created in the early 80s from the remnants of two other bands composed of high school friends. We shared a passion for progressive rock music that carries on to this day. In the early years, we quickly gathered a following in Quebec City writing and performing long and complex pieces with personal as well as politically and socially engaged lyrics that touched on the hot subjects of the time like the environment, the nuclear threat and more (sadly, a lot of these things are still relevant today).

Sharing influences like Marillion, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, ELP, Rush, Pink Floyd and a lot more, we worked hard to create our own sound and voice that was more modern and of its time. We were of course also influenced by all the new sounds of the 80s that we incorporated to our music in our own way while evolving our sound through the years and making it more accessible.

From 1987 to 1991, bySomethingELSE went through many personnel changes that also impacted our sound and musical direction. From 1989 onward, the original line-up was no more and the band ceased to exist under the Something ELSE name sometime in 1990.

But fast forward to 2014 when the original line-up got together in its entirety for the first time in the better part of two decades. Paul’s 50th birthday was the occasion and it sparked the official reunion of the original Something ELSE line-up that played prog music through the 80s. This time though, the main driving force was having fun!

Soon after the reunion and starting to re-learn a large part or our old repertoire and even (re)record some of our old songs, we decided to dedicated ourselves to a “side” project we named “Childhood Friends” that is a Marillion Fish era tribute project. We share 38+ years of passion for Marillion’s music that is closely tied to our friendship. We know Marillion fans hunger for it and we’re very pleased to deliver that timeless music to fans now to the best of our abilities.

During the last months of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, we got busy recording our first full album ever. Released on all platforms on May 8th 2025, we’re very proud of the final result which reflects where the band is now.

^ Yes, there's definite Neo Prog sounds a-plenty on this album. Tagged on https://awesomeprog.com/releases/81062" rel="nofollow - Awesome Prog as "Melodic Neo Prog, AOR" and I wouldn't argue against that at all.

I edited the biography to make it read in the 'third-person' rather than as a personal account of the band's history. Louis has already https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=12999" rel="nofollow - added the band though.

BYSOMETHINGELSE is a progressive rock project based in Montreal, Québec, Canada which was originally founded under the name SOMETHING ELSE by some high school friends in the early 80s following the break up of two other bands. The band members grew up with this style of music in the 1970s, and have shared a passion for it which has never waned right up to the present day.

In the band's early years, the long and complex pieces which they wrote and performed, focusing on the prominent issues of the day by means of their politically and socially engaged lyrics, soon gained them a strong following in Québec City.

The band consisted of Michel Renaud on lead vocals, Stéphane BERGERON on guitars, Pierre LATULIPPE on drums & backing vocals, Paul ROBERGE on bass & backing vocals, and Martin TREMBLAY on keyboards.

With influences which included prominent bands and artists of the 1970s such as MARILLION, Peter GABRIEL, KING CRIMSON, ELP, RUSH, PINK FLOYD and many more, they worked hard to develop a sound of their own with a more modern and contemporary slant by incorporating the musical developments which characterised the second wave of prog during the 1980s into their compositions whilst at the same time adding their own twist to it. This allowed them to evolve their sound as time went by, and ultimately make it more accessible.

Between 1987 and 1991, however, the band went through a number of personnel changes which quite naturally impacted their sound and musical direction. By 1989 none of the original members remained in the line-up, and the band ceased to exist under the SOMETHING ELSE name sometime in 1990.

The original line-up eventually got together again in its entirety for the first time in the better part of two decades in 2014, on the occasion of Paul ROBERGE's 50th birthday, and this subsequently sparked the official reunion of the original SOMETHING ELSE line-up which had played prog music throughout most of the 1980s.

Following the relaunch of the band, they began to re-learn a large part or their old repertoire and even re-record some of the songs, ultimately leading to a side project which they named 'Childhood Friends', this essentially being a Fish-era MARILLION tribute project reflecting the band members' 38-years-plus shared passion for MARILLION's music which has played a large part in cementing their friendship during that time.

During the last few months of 2024 and the early part of 2025, they began recording their first full album of original songs ever called 'Hope', and this was self-released on all digital platforms on May 8th 2025 under the moniker BYSOMETHINGELSE - with new original music projects already being planned for the future.

Then and now photo:
