Is anyone enjoying Pat Metheny as much as I do? I think his music is among the best made the last thirty years. I saw him in concert earlier this year, as far as I can remember the setlist (incomplete) was like this: flflkng

I like Pat Metheney, what I've heard, but my knowledge isn't as
extensive as yours!! A very distinctive, "cool" sound, with all the
usual ECM production values. Though he isn't prog...is this thread in the right place? |

I own pretty much the whole PMG catalogue + a couple of of DVD's and
one VHS. My favorite track, without question, is The First Circle.

My dad has an album that I should take a listen to, most of the jazz
guitar stuff he buys is top notch. On a side note, have you heard
what Pat has said about Kenny G?

McLaughlin ain't dead! So a daft suggestion. American Garage to avoid the overproduction of the later ECM and Geffin releases. You should read what both McLaughlin and Metheny say about maestro Allan Holdsworth!

Pat is a fantastic musican and composer. I've been a big
fan of his for some time now and the vast majority of his recorded
output is worth a listen. I've been lucky enough to see him and the Pat
Metheny Group on almost all of his European tours, the first being back
in '85 on the First Circle Tour which and that was an experience I'll
never forget. The band marched right through the crowd at the
Hammersmith Odeon playing brass band instruments (playing the song
Forward March) and onto the stage where they immediately went into the
next track on the album. Fantastic! He also backed Joni Mitchell on the Shadows and Light tour in a line up that included Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker and Jaco Pastorius. For the Metheny geeks among you, if you listen closely to the record, he and Mays sneak lots phrases and melodies from their own compositions into Mitchell's songs. ------------- I must remind the right honourable gentleman that a monologue is not a decision. - Clement Atlee, on Winston Churchill |

Amongst my all time favourite three jazz rock albums - but alas the long awaited DVD of the album is a directorial f**kup - my favourite fusion tune Dry Cleaner From Des Moines, has footage of 60's Las Vegas instead of Pastorius and Brecker blowing up one of the best duo storms on record. |
