I actually think that SX's "V" shows the band exploring their prog side much further than ever before; they're also testing their capability to keep the sense of drama in music and lyrics consistently interesting.. and they achieved it!

Meanwhile, SB's "V" shows a band that struggles to return to to their glory days of writing prog music (first 3 albums), and only partially succeeding at it. "Snow" would feel a bit better, but after "The Kindness of Strangers", the Beards went downhill. Now, without Neal, they are even buried six feet under, which is a shame, since all four musicians are great. But the music isn't good anymore.

I still enjoy the X, while the Beard has gone to places I don't want to go to with them.

    Regards.

Even though, I've gotten a bit sour on Symphony X, I still think V is one of the best Prog Metal albums ever!

What's more, the Symphony X's "V" album cover makes perfect sense with its contents. "V" is a concept-disc regarding a series of ancient eras in which the struggle between Good and Evil was first generated, in this way, planting the seeds of humankind's current calamity. The image of someone in the desert longing for a past full of water finds its equivalent on the back cover: a masked creature walking on water who foresees a future desert reflected on the mirror.

I don't know the meaning for SB's "V" cover, but again, I don't really care that much.

   Regards.
