I like The Cure, but they are far from prog.

I vote NO as for considering them being prog.  (and for that matter, for even being good)

great band, great ideas, outstanding music, but no prog in here, is very far and in some ways "aginst" the idea of classic prog, they started as a part of the new-wave/post-punk era.

peace

thats kind of like saying David Bowie is prog, moreso
his mid career hit on it and one or two could be
considered prog related. The Cure's music at times
can verge on progressive but almost anything with a
dance beat is really hard to classify head music.
Depeche Mode, Happy Mondays and NIN are
probably the closest commerial bands to the idea.
Most all good bands have a touch or more of
progressive tendencies, the Red Hot Chili Peppers
will be next, right?

Not long ago I heard a double-cd of them.
IMO they are not even prog-related!

They're a very good band, one of those few pop rock bands I still like

They had their proggy moments, but overall IMO not enough to be included here.

I enjoy their music a lot, but it really isn't that proggy most of the time.

Not prog, but they have put out some great records. My second favorite 80s alternative/pop-rock band (behind The Smiths).

Hmm, gdub, this might come as a surprise, but Peter Hammill expressed a liking for them. But then the "King of Fear", as Peter Hammill has occasionally been named, and the "Prince of Paranoia", a byname of Robert Smith of the Cure, should be expected to get along quite well .

the have some more complex pop songs but not really prog.. they did pretty bad albums at 90's but their " trilogy : pornography, disintergration, bloodflowers are REALLY great.. those three albums are masterpieces, their other albums aren't so good !! + robert smith is truly original singer and writes good lyrics.
