Yes, 'cause Camel is one of a kind!

Hmm... You might want to try Sebastian Hardie - Four Moments, which is
somewhat like Camel, but has also an obvious Yes influence. Great
album! Too bad their second and last release, Windchase, is not the
same standard.

You could try an album that has the prints of Camel:
GOTIC - Escenes
Or you could try Opeth .
Camel is one of their influences and admired bands according to Akerfeldt .

Haha i can only imagine the average camel fan hearing Opeth for the first time...although you can trace some influences actually but i could perhaps recommend
Ayreon-The Human Equation...not exactly like camel but it is happy music some influence from folk music and stuff

Try some later Camel releases too - they're what I imagine Pink Floyd SHOULD sound like but don't!
e.g. Dust & Dreams, Harbour of Tears, Rajaz, etc. David Gilmour should take a leaf out of Andy Latimer's book in my opinion (and I'm a grea fan of both by the way )

Maybe Camel is a good place to start in prog, because it's pretty easy &
accesible, and it only gets better and more interesting from there.

Don't try looking for a Camel clone because noone comes close.
Caravan are not like Camel really but the 2 bands have interacted in terms of personnel and ITLOGAP is a wonderful album and a must have.
As one of Camel's biggest fans, I would recommend bands which have some similarities and also give me great satisfaction, so Mostly Autumn come top of the list. The Spirit of Autumn Past and The Last Bright Light are among the best albums ever made. There is a lot of flute and keyboards as well as some marvellous guitar. Like Came,l the male vocals can be a bit dodgy at times but the female vocalist has the voice of an angel! See them live if you can.
I would also suggest Anglagard might be worth a listen, as could Focus, who use flute and some storming guitar and keyboards but are not so mellow. Still great.

Try Caravan's For girls who grow plumb in the night. I know they
aren't in the same genre but they still have something in their sound
that makes people compare them.

I was in the same situation some months ago, desesperately looking for some other Canterbury bands... You can try Caravan, Hatfield and the North, Soft Machine... That would be a start... Look for Nine Feet Underground by Caravan. If you enjoyed Camel Snowgoose or Moonmadness you should like!

There is French progressive band called Asia Minor. This band produced two albums. It's "French Camel"

Novalis - Sommerabend.
I hear some Camel influence on this one. Recommended.

Pendragon have their Camel-esque moments; notably the way Nick Barrett's guitar fuses with Clive Nolan's keys which reminds me of Camel at their best. I love 'The Masquerade Overture'- it's probably one of the best new symphonic prog albums I'd heard in a while.

Novalis is very good but instead of sommerabend i would recommend the self titled album this one is imo considerably better.
I like Camel very much and I would always recommend the Flower kings but i don't think they resemble each other.

I could agree that "Novalis" overall is better than "Sommerabend", but they are really very different albums. Start with "Novalis"! (I only have these two)
"Ending credits" on "Damnation" by Opeth sounds like a Camel tribute to me.

What i was going to say, I listened to Sommerabend this afternoon and find it (much) better then i remembered. It's not as energetic as "Novalis" though.
I think someone who likes Camel will like both albums.

White Willow are a great band, I have everything by them, except Sacrament, which I believe is one of their best. I must get that soon.
If you like your proto-prog, then Traffic has a lot of flute.
Some VdGG and Peter Hammill has flute too.
But they're not comparative to Camel really, as far as I know.

Yes, great records. And although it is their first and maybe not ripe yet, I think Banished Bridge is very good as well, and worth mentioning as well.
to GeckO, Sacrament is IMHO their best in terms of experimentality and progressiveness. Plus Anamnesis and The Reach have beautiful melodies and powerful performance of Sylvia Erichsen.

I have the Horslips albums and, whilst uttterly brilliant, they are much harder and Celltic than Camel. They use a wide range of traditional instruments (Mandolin, Flute, Uillean Pipes, Fiddle, Whistles, Concertina) to amazing effect. They also use vocals far more.
The Enid are pompous, overblown and brilliant at neo-classical prog. Wonderful if not like Camel. Aerie Faerie nonsense is a must have too.
Gryphon, like Camel, are mainly instrumental but they don't use electic guitar much either. They use a vast array of wind instruments but not flute. This album is well worth having.

As you asked for bands with flute as a basic instrument, I have thought of another album which incorporates flute as one of its major instrument alongside electric guitars and heavy synths:
SOLARIS - Marsbéli Krónikák (Martian Chronicles)

One band you should check is Kayak with Ton Scherpenzeel on keyboard. Yes, former Camel keyboardist. I recommend their latest offering "Nostradamus" which is close to 80's sounding Camel. Also, check Principal Edwards' "Round One" - more in 70's Camel mode.

Hi Orgul,
You probably know this one, but it should be added as well:
GNIDROLOG - Lady Lake and In Spite Of Harry's Toenail
More of a Jethro Tull fashion of flute use than Camel, but very good as well. Plus other wind instruments: Oboe, Horn and saxophones.
