OMG! What a band!

I had to start a topic about this excellent and wonderful piece of modern (abstract) art that these guys play.

I became curious about them by reading the interview on Toby Driver here on progarchives so I immedeatly went looking for his current band, Kayo Dot. When I first heard Choirs of the eye I was left cold and didn't even knew what to think. Good? Bad?  The next stop was Dowsing anemone with copper tongue since I heard that it was more accesible than Choirs of the eye but I felt even more cold and more confussed.

I went back with Choirs of the eye since I still had some curiosity about this completly strange kind of music they play and, like the always succesful prog cliche, the more I listened to it the more and more the curiosity grew. I was starting to like it! the strangeness, the wierdness, the loudness, the softness, the AVANT-GARDEness. After some rough and extent listenings Choirs of the eye have easily crept from one of the lowest albums I would rate to a solid masterpiece without a hesitation and im still working on Dowsing anemone with copper tongue and itlooks like it's in the same pattern as Choirs of the eye

A quote from Allmusic.com on the review of Choirs of the eye: ...You don't so much "get it" ; it's more about "feeling it".

So don't wait any longer. If you are at least a little bit curious about this band then go a help with the cause and listen to their albums.

Excellent music for those looking for "out there" completely different stuff.

It would also be worthwhile to listen to their previous incarnation MAUDLIN OF THE WELL which is really weird and beyond my capabilities of description, combining classical, metal, jazz and all other goodies into their free-form style plus clean vocals with growls. They released 3 albums:

My Fruit Psychobells... A Seed Combustible

Bath

Leaving Your Body Map

Dowsing... is pretty much the antipode of Choirs..., I think. I am glad somebody has discovered an amazing new group by reading my interview. This music is impossible to describe and needs to be heard.

All of their works are progressive, however, I think CTTE is the best starting point.

Is this the equivalent of progeers to a Freudian slip?

Shouldn't it be COTE?

Sorry, Ivan, Couldn't help it. No offense, honestly. Good interview by the way, I enjoyed reading it.

Bah, CTTE and COTE abbreviations mixed up, sorry.

I still couldn't get what you meant by the first sentence though.

Do you mean interviews with Kayo Dot? Not anytime soon, I've asked T. Driver all the questions I had and now I kind of imagine the answers to questions that were born later. It wasn't a natural interview, it was done by e-mail.

At the time of the interview, I seriously considered becoming a ProgArchives representative doing interviews with people and stuff, but the PM I had sent to Max wasn't read, and I no longer feel myself worthy or even enthusiastic to take this duty. Right now I think of becoming a Prog Reviewer, so I've been writing a lot of reviews - I think I've been improving. I don't know if I ever get my own page and privileges and what not, but it's a good feeling when you know you're one of the people who don't just repeat what others say and review the albums in the Top 100 over and over and that there might be people who actually follow them and find out, perhaps, their future favourite groups!

As I listen to music though, I imagine musicians in my mind, speculate with my myself how and what they were feeling when they recorded the album, so there is a possibility that I could try asking a musician through internet to answer my questions for an interview. I already imagine what questions I would ask to Kristoffer Rygg, but I think he's been under attention in the business for such a long time that it would be impossible to find an interesting original question for him. There's this really obscure progmetal group I know, whose frontman even knows my native tongue, but they're not even in the archives yet. I'd like to ask them question a lot though.

Not sure if that's the information you wanted to find out, but that's pretty much all I could say.

That was new information to me.  I can imagine a few slips of such kind in the real life now, but I think I've only done these online so far.

Well you answered me alright. I meant interviews with other bands, but you pretty much said it.

I've been following your reviews. Good stuff
