The Readership of 'Total Guitar' magazine selected the best guitar solos of all times. Here is the first 10:
1. "Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin 2. "Eruption" - Van Halen 3. "Paradise City" - Guns N'Roses 4. "Hotel California" - The Eagles 5. "Enter Sandman" - Metallica 6. "Crossroads" - Cream 7. "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" - Jimi Hendrix 8. "Crazy Train" - Ozzy Osbourne 9. "All Right Now" - Free 10. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen. All too predictable inclusions I'm afraid; there are some brilliant solos in AOR records by the likes of Toto and REO Speedwagon that will never make the grade because of how uncool those bands are. But for emotion, 'I Won't Hold You Back' by Toto and 'Keep On Lovin' You' by REO Speedwagon are extremely powerful. Similarly, Steve Hackett's 'Everyday' has a solo that should be well up there as it has all the trickery those solos mentioned have but an emotional core too. Same goes for pretty much all of Dave Gilmour and Andy Latimer's work. |

I like the How the West Was Won version of the Stairway solo much more than studio version. The only other solo that should be there is Eruption and maybe Voodoo Child. IMO none of the others are top 10 worthy but I haven't heard All Right Now or Crossroads. |

What! A music fan who hasn't heard "All Right Now"? - I don't believe it! Anyway, I agree with the person who mentioned Crossroads. Awesome guitar playing, in fact awesome playing all round. |

That looks VERY close to the top 10 out of another list I found, (the top 100 guitar solos). So I guess that shows popularity and predictability always controls these lists. ------------- System of a Down, Slayer, Fear Factory, Death, Children of Bodom, Meshuggah, Symphony X, Nevermore, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. |

I cant really say any of these songs belong anywhere in the top 100 greatest guitar solos. I can think of at least 1000 better guitar solo's than Stairway to Heaven. Its so predictable and repetative. But then again, I think the same of all Led Zeppelin's work. I'm not suprised by the list though, the people who wrote up the list have probably never heard the best stuff, but rather only the popular music that gets the most radio play. Crazy Train is a perfect example. Randy Rhoads has so much better work than Crazy Train, but since that song is the most popular, it gets put on the top 10 list. These lists piss me off. Why bother calling it a "best Guitar solo's of all time list" why not just come out and say heres a list of 10 really popular songs that have decent guitar solos in it. ------------- Watch out where the huskies go,dont you eat that yellow snow |

hahhahaha...Paradise city? I mean, its great...but Slash has other better solos...and still, I dont know if he even belongs in the top 10...anyways, this top is pretty crappy...Ozzy? Enter Sandman?
