To those of you who have yet to experience this phenomenal band, please
check out 'Blueberry Boat.' May not be prog in the nominal sense, but
essential nouveau art rock with a very many burbling analog synth
passages, calliopes, toy pianos, xylophones, textural swashes of pure
color and blistering 'Townshend'esqe guitar solos, sometimes played with
the abandon of a Frippian atonality (not as technically proficient mind
you, but quite passionate.) My immeadiete thought in digging on this
band was 'instant classic', very 70s inflected yet with such bold steps
forward into some sort of avant-robot-pirate rock territory never before
chartered.

I've heard some complain about the lazy, warbling inflection of their
singer Eleanor (who makes up one half of the brother sister duo of
songwriting with Matthew on guitars and compositions) but if your not
expecting to hear some operatic or overly dramatic, her story telling half
talking approach to me is quite charming and fits the music wonderfully.

And what's more, theyve created a concept album in 'Rehearsing the
Choir' (their latest disc) which is so layered and loaded with narrative
at times I feel like I'm listening to an audio book. To my ears, they are the
most truly progressive band making waves in the underground right now
while still giving plenty of nods back to the golden era of 70s rock.

So true. The Fiery Furnaces are fantastic. From the quite electronic dancyness of Gallowsbird Bark and EP to the incredibly complex Blueberry Boat, this band is one of the best things around.

Another emotional suicide, overdosed on sentiment and pride

When Blueberry Boat was released it re-invigorated my love for progressive rock.

It has a lot to answer for

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.
