Max asked for comments about the new forum software to be sent to him via email ... let's just collect them in this thread and I'll send him a link to this thread, so he can easily see what's happening. Just post your comments, and I'll edit them into the following list, + any comments by Max.

Bugs:
- PM feature disabled
(you must click the username , then the PM link is there,
, edit by Max)
- Search does not find all posts by users (when searching for username)
- Post editor does not work with Internet Explorer 7 Beta (garbles post html)
- Images
in signatures may be garbled when editing your profile and the
signature is close to 200 characters. Don't know why, but somehow the
software is adding additional properties to the images (e.g.
border="0") and so the sig becomes longer than the max. number of
characters.
Suggestion: Allow more than 200 ... maybe 300. (not sure where to change that Mike ?)
- RSS-Feed: CSS class div.BBquote needs to be formatted with border and background-color. My suggestion: div.BBquote { border: 1px solid #ddd; background-color: #f0f0f0; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 5px; }
FIXED
Features that are missing:
- Bullet lists and other buttons are not enabled in the Quick Reply (should be)
- Forum Jump dropdown seems to be broken FIXED
- People miss the anchor link to the top of the page
- Quick Reply: Inputs are missing (e.g. bullet list, image)
The QUICK REPLY is there to QUICK REPLY so , no ENHENCED FEATURE is to be included in that box ?!
- Maybe with the new forum software the email notification feature can be enabled again?
- addition
to the above request: The "report" button would also be useful.
Performance has been much improved, so maybe it's possible to enable it
again.
WHERE IS THE REPORT BUTTON , dam it ... About the EMAIL NOTIFY , i will test it later, thanks to remind me
Added features of the new software (just FYI): - Newest Post First sort order is now available.
- RSS feed for Active Posts
- Calendar
- Member birthdays (bottom of Active Topics page)
- More new features listed here : http://webwizguide.info/web_wiz_forums/forum_features.asp - http://webwizguide.info/web_wiz_forums/forum_features.asp
(although some may be not be used in the progarchives forum)

There are a few things I find not as good
1-Colors , they respect less the original Prog Archives banner , the Purple is now almost gray and the color selection window/box is cut and the lower two rungs of colors are not available FIXED
2- the quick reply box is too small >> I fail to see the point of this quick reply also. To get a normal box you have to push the reply button in a post: it is next to the quote button which is very confusing and provoke many false maneuvers FIXED
3- there seems to be a bug in the PMs as I could not reply to a message, saying I had to fill in a text, which was done ???
4- I have yet to check out that calendar option on the top right hand corner
5- I sort of miss the alternance between the white and grey wallpaper of posts FIXED
6- I am not so sure we will be able to work with the quotes as well as we used to! I have yet to see the [/QUOTE] which made it easy to break up or combine the quotes in a reply ???
7- the back to top of page button on the bottom left hand side of everypost is missing >> this was extremely useful WILL CHECK
8- I also think that on the main or general forum page, there was the feature that could show you in which thread it was posted last and by whom >> this was also useful >> Hope it will reappear THIS WILL DRAMATICALLY DECREASE LOADING PERFORMANCE...
EDIT BY MAX IN BLUE

Can you reset the whole forum to the old design?
The new one is quite confusing and unclear.

let me remind you once again that the changes were not done deliberately. A new version of the forum software is out and Max installed the update because it contains many improvements, most of all in:
- performance
- html code cleanup
as a result the design is somewhat out of whack, and it will take some time until the new software is configured correctly, and the various tweaks that Max added to the old software will have to be adapted to the new software, as well as the old design has to be ported to CSS (cascading style sheets).
So please hold your horses, I think that most of the obvious problems with the design and basic functionality will be corrected by Max in the next few days. In the meantime we can focus on new features here, or serious bugs in the functionality.

I still occasionally get the deadlock error, but this maybe my connection, rather than an issue with the forum. However, others have also had similar problems, so I hopefully this is just a temporary fault.
Things are improving though, so all is good.
Also, is there any chance of multiple skins like other forums? Then we could choose how we wanted the forum to look, but keeping the same functionality?

I don't seem to be able to go to a specific page any more when I am already on a thread - there is PREV and NEXT but the the drop down box doesn't get me anywhere. Or have I missed something?
Also, PREVIEW POST doesn't work?

One minor thing I've noticed, if you click the dropdown list on your browser's Back button, every page is titled the same "Progressive Rock Forum by Progarchives".
I'm sure they used to be titled differently.

When I searched for the "read any good books lately"-thread using the
key word "books", I found three other book-related threads, but not the
one I was looking for.
Is there something wrong with the search feature? It didn't find the "Off at tangents"-thread either.

Overall I do like the new look though.

A couple of things from me.
First off, it would be nice to see what thread was posted in last in each of the specific sections of the forum, it makes it a lot easier to know what's going on.
Secondly, what's with the maximum sending of 10 PMs per hour? Is there any way we can get rid of that?

No, as far as I remember from the WebWiz forum these are separate features.
- Report: Sends message to admin
- Hide: Simply hides the post. The button should only be visible for admins and can be used to hide a post so that it doesn't offend anybody while the admin can think about what to do about it.

OK, scroll up to the top of the page. See where it says http://www.progarchives.com/forum/default.asp - Progressive Rock Forum by Progarchives.com : http://www.progarchives.com/forum/default.asp?C=1 - Progarchives.com: Help, Reports & Internal news : http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=2 - Help us improve ...
I think the second link in that list is redundant, because if one wants to go to another forum it's just as easy to click the first main one and scroll down as it is to click the second one, especially since most of the time people would want to go to another forum that's not in the same sub-category; and I find the second one to be somewhat visually annoying. It's not a big deal; I just wanted to mention it.

PMs formatting problem:
It seems to be that there's no WYSIWYG formatting in the Private Messages box- or at least, when I write a message, the html codes appear instead of the icons and stuff.
When I read a message after completion or on preview it is OK,but we need to be able to see formatting as we write.

It's not working for me this morning. Also when I started a new thread, the Insert Hyperlink button didn't work.

"Forum Jump" didn't work last night at home but works okay now. The only difference is I use Firefox at home, so it could be a browser problem.

On AOL (which I hardly use because PA won't accept my IP address) the Avatars appear the same size as they were uploaded. Therefore there are some large avatars that take up loads of space on the screen. It doesn't realy matter because, as I said, I use Internet Explorer, but the same may happen to other people.

mailto:M@X - M@X ,
1- can the reply button be moved away from the quote button on the top right hand corners of the posts. I cannot seem to get used to this change!! in the old version, there was only the quote button as the reply was below the text. I frequently push the wrong button , and the reply button is a bit useless, IMHO except that it gives you a better new post tool than the quick reply
2- About that quick reply tool, what is the point of this except providing a bad:poorer alternative of the reply function. In the old version the reply box at the bottom of the page was complete, but now because of this quick reply thing, it is not satisfactory
3- any news about that Back to Top Of The Page thing? It was quite usefull and avoided scrolling or using the slide bar
4- Where there not in the old version and undo and redo function ? I seem to remember it, and it was useful. But I am not sure of it being on the Archives
Thanks

On the database side:
1- I love the new colors scheme in the star system by going from Green (go ahead >> 5*) to Red (stop >> 1*) I just wish the Yellow 3* was a little yellower (rather than Beige) or we could imagine a slightly orange yellow in case it might not be visible enough in yellow.
2- Too bad the albums (whole discography ) do not appear on the right hand side of the page anymore >> this was useful and a shortcuts. The pages are not quicker opening because the discography is absent
3- there is this very irritating warning/offer of installation of the micromedia Flashplayer 8 that keeps popping up everytime you come onto a group page and even if you do try to load up, nothing happens >>> Very Annoying >>> Can it not be removed???? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally greatly miss the back to the top page and I think this should exist in the database as well, because some of these pages are so long (reviews) that you have to scroll back from hell to get out of the page or start dragging with the scroll bar thing >> much simpler with those Back to top

Snowy,
If they are thread you started, try this.
- Click on "Search" at the top of the page
- Leave the search by key word blank, and type Snow Dog in the Search by user name (Optional) field
- In the find posts field, click on the down arrow, and change it to Any date.
- Click start search
Hope this works for you!

Not good. Because you cannot click on the Topic Starter, to organise the search. You can do this without setching, but because mt name begins with "s" its not include due to the 25 page limit!

I found it difficult to expalin too.
I don't know the words.
You know if you click on "Topic Starter" or "rplies" in a section, it purs them in otder, alphabeticaly i the case of "Topic Starter".
I'm an "S", so my topics aren't revealed as irs beyond the 25 page limit. If I make a search, this function doesn't exist anyway.
Thats the best I can expalein ir .

There are various options for sorting the results, and you can filter them by putting something in the search for field as well if you know roughly what the title was (""Wings" for example). You can also select to see the topic names only.
