I am not a Christian but I think the avator with Jesus as a goal keeper and the caption saying "Jesus Saves" is quite offensive.

RM, this avatar makes sense in English and it's not really offensive in that language. If we translate to Portuguese it loses meaning and seems blasphemous. Smile

I can understand the intended pun, but I think it could be offensive to some Christains though.

I love that avvy!LOL

I see nothing offencive in it, but maybe that's because I'm an atheist and tend to be objective.

I had a Spanish friend whose names was Jesus and he landed for next to nothing a stock of T-shirts saying "Jesus Loves You", which he gave to all of his possible conquestsLOL

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

The avatar doesn't say anything against Jesus or any religion associated with him.  I think thats the kind of joke that even a Christian would think is funny.  Its light hearted in nature, really.

We've got lots of jokes of this kind in Italian, and they're not considered blasphemous at all. Blasphemy, IMHO, is something else entirely. It's true, however, that many religious people tend to be easily offended.

BTW, in Italian the expression would be practically the same...Wink

I'm a Catholic, latin and Spanish speaker but honestly find it funny.

Who said religion and sense of humor can't go together if something is not offensive?

But of course if it offends somebody it's a different thing.

Well, I'm a christian (allthough not a very active one, and I too am singing along with Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast on a night out with friends), but I saw the avatar, and I love it. So, case closed Wink
