Ok.
They need to be 128kbs. The File Name should read Band - Album - Track Number - Track Name.

Like this:

Zip them up (if there is more than one file) and send them by "yousendit" or "megaupload" etc to
[email protected]
Thank you.

People should really do this more. Is there a limit of songs for one album/band?

So why there's no streaming available for Skaldowie? I sent tracks with the submission.

Here is how the file's "tag" should look:

you can edit the MP3s tag in Windows Media Player and a host of other players.

With all due respect to the guy that sent me this file,

THIS IS HOW NOT TO DO IT...

Needless to say the "Artist" name given is NOT the artist and the "Title" of the track is not "track 12"

and this guy couldnt understand why I hadnt added his files...I was looking for a band called Nieznany....

I can recode virtually any file, but that's not the point. It all takes extra, unnecessary time for me,time I havent got!

with all due respect Tuzzy, the artist is listed as "Nieznany Wykonawca", the title of the track as "track 12" and the "comments tag" is incorrect.

Yes, we are grateful for anything that is sent, but this is tempered by the extra work that is created when simple instructions arent followed.

Please keep the files coming, just dont make pointed posts like "why hasnt X been added,I sent them 3
weeks ago" when YOU have created the hold up.

Ok, how to edit tags using Windows Media Player 11.

This has changed slightly (and for the worse) in this version .

However, first select the track for playing in WM Player.
"Stop" the track and "right click" on it. Select "find in library" as in the image below:

This will open the Library view in WMP:

Righ-click on the track name and select "advanced tag editor"

Fill in all the boxes you can, including the "http://www.progarchives.com" in the "comments" tab box you can see below:

Then click "apply" and your file is now properly tagged.

Now to complete the job.

Locate the file where it is stored and right-click on ot and select "properties":

in the box near the top type "band name" - "album name" - "track number" - "track title" .mp3 as below:

Done.

Great tutorial.Clap

Except. You don't have to stop playing the music. Just click on the Library tab and then click on "Now Playing" and you can access the album by selecting all the tracks and right clicking.

Thanks Ian,I am still getting to grips with WMP11. I am not very happy with it. Many times when I go from the player to files using Files>Open and selecting the playliust file from the album folder, WMP refuses to accept that the files are stored in that location, whereas if I find the folder without going through WMP and double-click the playlist (M3u) file it plays file. The trouble with theLibrary option is that it doesnt seem to present the playlist files for playing but just lists two sets of songs for each album...

...clear as mud, but the short view is that I dont find WMP11 particularly user-friendly.

Posted By: Snow Dog
Date Posted: December 31 2006 at 13:03
^^ I like the look of WMP 11, but its so different from the previous version, that it takes time to find out how to do things that were so easy once.  But some things are not so good. For example it doesnt show you the total album time (in the now playing tab) unless you press "stop".

One thing to bear in mind: we cant put too many tracks up for each band and certainly no more than one from any album.
My personal guidelines for the ratio of band's albums to MP3s offeres is:

ALBUMS     MP3s
1 - 2        1
3 - 5        2
6 - 8        3
9 - 10      4
over 10    5

Oh, and if band has released, say, 5 albums, but none of them sounds like another, would it make sense to include a sample for each one despite your policy? I mean, some bands can be summed up in one song in spite of their long and fruitful career, whereas others released less albums but changed more...

Its more a case of being mindful that these MP3s arent our property and not take things for granted. It would be unfair on the bands to put any more up....take Genesis for example we have 9 tracks. This is too many and I will remove some and refresh others soon.I think 5 is the most we should have. PT have 5 and "you-know-who" must have seen them and he hasnt said anything...

So in other words, there are no legal issues before a band or label makes a complaint? I'm asking because I'd like to submit a few samples, and it'd be convenient to know if I'm expected to contact the band and sort out permits in advance.

I will upload a song for the italian prog metal band Sinestesia. The band gave me the permission of post the opener of their 2007 self titled debut album (and only one at the moment). Then I will send the link to the e-mail address informed above.

That's because KC doesn't allow it.

I had some mp3 files of Brazilian bands that you're looking for, like 14-Bis, for example... I'll send them to you as long as I get them ready. PA is the best source of prog that I've ever seen, I'm looking forward to contribute to it!
See ya!

Well, now I've been uploading -loads- of mp3's by bands in the missing mp3's list - at least 50 artists so far. A couple have been added I see - when are the rest coming...?

Kinda curious bout that one ;-)

They're on the line, Olav... I don't personally add them but I think that there's a queue for being added and I believe the adding procedure is a bit painful.

What I can assure you is that they're all duly preserved! Smile

Good thing - as -many- more are coming .-)

May I suspect that each file has to be written into an xml file for the player, with both file name and location specified?

I'll get them up,it takes awhile.

I am not adding 50 mp3's all at once,I'll get to them in time, and will probably add 5-10 a week.

Hmmm, with 5-10 new mp3s each week, and 10-15 new artists approved each week; there's bound to be a hell of a backlog as time moves on ;-)

No complaints from my side - but I can see that this might become a future issue if more users in general starts contributing "missing" mp3s :-)

I am currently the only admin who is adding mp3's.You are REALLY swamping me,I am trying to get them up as fast as possible.

I appreciate the effort, but you aren't the only person sending in mp3's and I am trying to add them all quickly.I didn't have a backlog until you started sending them en masse.

Excuse my tone,I'm just feeling a little pressured.Again..thanks for taking them time to send them in.

Okies - then I'll pause :-)

Seems like there should be a person or two more who should help out in that department; being the only person responsible for a time consuming task is never much fun.

Just let me know when I can continue attacking the giant list of artists without mp3's available for streaming; as you have seen I tend to work rather hard at such tasks when I first start :-)

Sorry if I seemed rude,I was a little busy last night.Usually me and Angelo are the admins who add the mp3's but he is away for a bit.

To clear the backlog I'll add 10-20 a day.I'll let you know when I get done with the ones you sent and please continue to send more.

A Twilight Zone moment ... I was going to ask the same question, and I was just checking here before the query.

Asked and answered without me even typing a key stroke! Tongue

Any chance we could find a way to put a reference along the lines of "Sorry, KING CRIMSON prohibits the use of mp3 streaming on ProgArchives. Please do not submit mp3 files for this artist.", instead if the standard "Sorry, no free mp3 streaming available for KING CRIMSON".

Something like this may cut down on the amount of work for both PA members and Admins alike.

Is there a list of artists that have prohibited the use of mp3 files published somewhere Question

Cheers,

Hi Tony,

I am sending a 7Zip archive (hope you can open it)   with 4 songs of Žursaflokkurinn  to you via Megaupload;  hopefully I packed the right MP3s (with album and band in the title of the MP3)  into the Zip data.
