Morse is an excellent musician, but he never really jelled with Kansas and even when he was with the band he was spending a lot of time on side projects. During the tour post-'In the Spirit of Things' Morse even opened for Kansas a few times with his own band while he was still a member of Kansas.

Anyway, the Morse albums are okay but not brilliant - Walsh's material during this time was modest at best (and usually dark and bitter), plus the band hired out for some of their compositions which didn't turn out all that well.

The biggest problem in that era was Walsh's nose, and the things he felt a need to pack into it. Once he cleaned himself up the band improved immensely, but unfortunately by then he had pretty much wrecked his voice and has struggled to manage it since then.

So I'm a huge Kansas fanboy as everyone here knows, but the Morse years were not good ones for the band. The one positive thing I'll say is that if Morse had not joined when he did, I believe Kansas would have folded and never come back together, so at least he gets credit for keeping the dream alive during a dark time for the band.

Kansas are among my all time fave's and I really enjoy Spirit of Things but just can't bring myself to get Power, even though it's like 7 bucks on Amazon.  That little voice inside my head says I won't like it.  I'm sure most everyone has that little voice that speaks to them about investing in certain albums.
