I guess that when I purchase a track, I should not need an IPOD to actually listen to that song. There are many MP3 players out there, so why should I buy an IPOD? What do u think about it and concerning the soft opposing DRM industry??? http://www.soundtaxi.info/

Buy CDs instead and rip them into MP3s.

I hate the whole IPod thing.  Sony make a hard disc walkman which is a much nicer piece of kit.  It can import ripped CDs or downloaded MP3s.

Well worth havingThumbs Up

When people get lost in thought it's often because it's unfamiliar territory.

My MP3 player plugs in the back of the PC like a portable hard disk and I can easily put files on it. I was hearing today that the iPod doesn't work like that but needs special software. What an overrated device it is!

The sad thing is that many people don't know that there are alternatives to the iPod.

As N Ellingworth pointed out, the IPod is nothing more than an expensive fashion accessory. I have a dirt cheap mp3 player that a can copy riped CD files and mp3 files to as well as cary any other kind of non-music filles that I need to take with me.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Exactly there are MP3 players which do a lot more than play music and don't have restrictions on what can be played on them.

I must track down a portable turntable so I can listen to my LPs on the bus. Big smile

Exactly. My little Samsung MP3 player plugs into a USB port and then you just drag and drop files onto it. It plays MP3s, WMAs and OGG files, has 2Gb of space so I can fit 10-20 albums on it and still have enough space to copy data files between PCs at work. Who needs an iPod? It's just become a generic term for MP3 players (like Hoover) but people haven't yet cottoned on to the fact that there are other makes of MP3 players.

CDs can also be DRM'ed. Buy vinyls (sound better too).
