I personally think is ITCOTCk, is for me not only their best but THE best of 70's classic rock alongside Close to the edge, Relayer and Foxtrot

Easiliy ITCOTCK, with Larks' Tongues a close second, and Red third.

*shakes her head in frustration*
The Search function! Why don't you use the Search function? This has been done to death...
BTW, almost a tie between ITCOTCK and "Red"... I know someone will disagree on the latter, but I find it a masterpiece all the same . Voted for the former though, mainly for sentimental reasons... One of the very first prog albums I listened to in its entirety when a teenager.

Islands for the win. The best KC album, closely followed by Lizard and Red.

In the Court of the Crimson King. I liked it a lot from the start while many of the others took a while to get into. While I love most of their work, ITCOTCK still stands a little higher over the others.

Lark's Tongue in Aspic is just amazing. Simply, the best King Crimson album and it still would be the best album if you took off everything except Lark's Tongue in Aspic Part One.

my personal favorite is Starless and Bible Black. Surprised not many have said it yet. Lark's Tongues is second for me.

That's a very good call. Highly representative for what KC stands. However, my vote goes to LTIA, or as they call it, Sharks' Lungs in Lemsic.

Sigh -- there's that "B" word, again!
Several of them are "best," at different times, and for different reasons.
I really like Lizard, Lark's Tongues and Discipline, for instance (five stars each, for me), but they are radically different from each other. There is no "best" in art.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
On a similar note as Peter Rideout above, In the Court of the Crimson King is my FAVORITE, but Lizard is certainly just as good. Also, Red is probably just as good as well, though it doesn't appeal to me. Larks' Tongue in Aspic is, in many ways, better than ITCOTCK, but I don't prefer it.
Anywho, I voted for the debut.

I hate to say it because everyone does but, honestly it is In the Court. Lizard is in second, followed by either Discipline or Lark's Toungues.

"I personally think is ITCOTCk, is for me not only their best but THE best of 70's classic rock alongside Close to the edge, Relayer and Foxtrot" (from the first post).
Interesting... ITCOTCK was released in 69, which sort of makes it not 70s prog. Perhaps "first wave" of prog would be better...

ItCotCK is still a pretty weak and messy album musically, even though
its lyrics are good. Not a bad album, but certainly not the best if you
ask me.

Bill Bruford' drumming throughout is both aggressive and beautiful. John Wetton, though not the best bassist ever to grace Fripp's band (that would be Levin) is certainly talented (just listen to Starless). Robert Fripp is, as always, in top form.

I can never understand what the big deal is about ITCOTCK. Most of the songs sounds ancient and I love late 60s and 70s music. I think Creams wheel of fire and Hendrix's Cry of love are easily better and more inteseresting albums of the same era. Both albums sound more advanced than the Crimson debut

Cannot decide. ITCOTCK or Red, or maybe Lizard, or Larks. I don't know. They all are great.
