Thanks to the CD format there are prog epics that clock in at 30, 40, 50 or even 60+ minutes. But still, 20 years after the vinyl age, an LP side (about 20 minutes) is a common standard length. My favourites of 2004: 1. “Behind The Great Beyond” (20:26) by Glass Hammer (Shadowlands) 2. “Modern Times” (21:09) by Matthew Parmenter (Astray) 3. “The Everlasting Hills” (19:47) by Dave Bainbridge (Veil of Gossamer) 4. “Drivers Seat” (18:22) by The Flower Kings (Adam & Eve) 5. “The Creation” (18:23) by Neal Morse (One) 6. “A Gap in the Night” (18:22) by The Tangent (The World That We Drive Through) 7. “The Separated Man” (18:00) by Neal Morse (One) 8. “Love Supreme” (19:50) by The Flower Kings (Adam & Eve) |

#1 on that list is by Kinky Friedmann, erstwhile leader of the Texas Jewboys turned detective novelist. His love of country is genuine, but his songs range from tongue in cheek to hilarious - 'Proud to be an Asshole from El Paso' is perhaps his finest moment. I suspect that one or two other titles on there may be his, and that others may be equally ironic (not a totally unknown quality in C&W circles.
