Which of these debut albums by a couple of classic Prog bands is your
favourite? I vote for Yes' selftitled debut, a tragically underrated
album. I didn't include In the Court of the Crimson King by KC, because
everyone would've voted for that one.

The first ELP album is the only ELP album one I can listen to fully without skipping any songs or parts from songs.

I said RUSH because I think it is extremely underrated. Yes it is not proggy, but it is a kick ass hard rockin album. It definately deserves more than it seems to get.

I'm surprised no one came up with Gentle Giant's dubut. it's completely amazing album. no other band has sounded so tight on their first record. the year was 1970 and that album is better than much of the things done after that. there's also a good mention to ELP's first!. By the way Rush's 1974 really rocks!!!.
Peace!.

to both Father Tiresias and Phileas, I did mention GG and VdGG, only that I was asked to vote for just one of my favourite four.

ELP could actually win a poll ...shock horror
...although by default as King Crimsons debut is clearly the best.

A tough one this between Floyd, Yes & Rush. I love all three debuts, but in the end I voted for Yes. I had the vinyl, and now have the remaster. I especially admire Peter Banks' great guitar work.
Definitely an underrated guitarist.

My vote goes for Yes seltitled... I'm a big fan of Yes and that's the reason why but I really love other debut albums from that list such as VdGG, Magma Kobaia and ELP Same, one of the most impressive debut albums that I've heard...

Jethro Tull's debut is just horrible...

Still no votes for VdGG... What's going on? It's a fabulous album.

Piper by a hair over ELP's eponymous debut. You gotta love Syd's work. Piper stands as teh ultimate psychedelic album, not in the sense of space prog on this site, but in the sense of the psychedelia of the 60s that eventually helped birth prog.

Emerson Lake and Palmer were well established musicians before they formed their trio, and when they did, everything fit into place.
I don't think it SEEMS or SOUNDS like a debut at all!

Doesn't matter to me whether 'In The Court Of...' is in the poll or not, I still wouldn't have voted for it. Yes I do own it, yes I recognise its historical importance, and its influence on my favourite band, Genesis, and yet I still don't rate it as an album. In fact, I think it now sounds ridiculously dated.
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, an older album, sounds fresher, even though it is redolent of the sixties.

A real toss-up between Camel, Van Der Graaf Generator and Gentle Giant, but I finally went with GG. (the ELP is pretty great too!)

The best (for me) album out of those I'm acquainted with is Gentle Giant. But my vote goes for the favourite of them -- namely, Van der Graaf Generator's The Aerosol Grey Machine (it should be the first (and, probably, the last) VdGG point in this poll...)

Great poll!!
I had to vote for Camel although so many of them are good, I think Camel's debut just kicked serious butt
But had you put in Caravan's debut, that would have got my vote.

Camel's first is stunningly beautiful, rich melodies with great prog-grooves.

ELP easily for me. But they did have the advantage of being experienced already with previous bands. In Emersons case he was a very seasoned artist.

Difficult choice.
I guess Magma's Kobaïa,
but Camel, ELP and Pink Floyd's first are very good also. Gentle Giant was pretty decent, also, but is not my favourite band in the list.
Rush, Tull, Yes, VDGG are good, but with hindsight they improved after that very much.
Genesis debut was bad (though i like the orchestration, the band itself is too thin)
