I was just putting up the band name because I like them so much, to see what other people here might say in reply. I am sorry that people might be offended by me just putting up a name of a great band. If I saw that same  post by some one else I would reply with some kind of curiousity....  Please excuse me !!!!!

I would think the way to start a discussion in regard to any band, would to be to ask a question.  Just posting a name without giving any opinion of your own, just begs for rudeness from the group.

Pete Robinson (Brand X, Suntreader "Zin Zin")is one of the most under-appreciated rock organists.

And Gustafson ain't no slouch either.

"Black Sheep of the Family" was later covered by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.

Some call the decidedly inferior second lp (with only one orig member?) ,straight rock.

was R.B. Rainbow's cover of Black Sheep of the family on any R.B.Rainbow album - or was it just a live thing - I'd like to hear that - is it a good cover?

mandrake

(goes of to check what small amount of RBR Lp's he owns)

Guess this was the album that had the most
influence on Emerson Lake and Palmer as they took
the model and built off of it. Nice album to have for
historic sake and the music is pretty darn good too.

ELP influenced by Quatermass? Pull the other one!

Quatermass were influenced in part by Deep Purple (afterall Gustafson & Underwood came from Episode Six)and The Nice (with whom they toured).Atomic Rooster as well.

Emerson on the other hand was influenced by Brother Jack McDuff, Brubeck, the stage antics of Don Shinn, and Dudley Moore!

It's on the very first Rainbow album, and yes it is. You've gotta love Dio's voice!

Quatermass is a great keyboards~bass/vocals~drums prog CD. John Gustafson's voice was a bit similar to Ian Gillan's, but one could argue he had the edge on Greg in the voice dept. His bass-playing was very good, and while Pete Robinson was a very capable keyboardist in his own right, Emerson clearly had the edge on him. The thing is that both debuts are different enough to be enjoyed, and serve different interests. Neither Quatermass nor Emerson, Lake & Palmer sounds like the other.

I must add to this. I recently got Quatermass' first album, and its very good. I prefer it to ELP, because I don't like Greg's voice, and I don't like the stuff they peddled from Brain Salad Surgerey onwards. Also, I don't like Emerson's taste for throwing in obscure classicla references at every turn. It worked for The Nice, but they were a sort of psychedelic pill-head explosion which was good for the 1960s, and I felt that ELP never cooked like that. Also, one listen to Pictures at an Exhibition tells me Gustafson's voice is better than Lake...

To me Quatermass sounds as a pleasant progressive blend of rock and blues featuring powerful vocals, tasteful keyboard work and some fiery guitar. Not top notch but good and entertaining, in my opinion a bit overlooked in these days because there are so many progrock CD releases and re-issues.

Oh yes.Too overlooked, but that was the case at the time, and that is why they dissolved.

QUATERMASS is one of my favourite prog-rock bands, their music is a wonderful mix between DEEP PURPLE and THE NICE.

well, the exclusive piano solo on Post war, saturday echo never hapens by Emerson, i love emerson but the mysterious Robinson plays more tasty and meanin ful. maybe Wakeman is a better one to be compared with.
er... Rainbows cover of Black Sheep might be good weather i am not interested, the funny thing is that Richie wanted to cover that thing for a long time in deep purple, any way it has com in defrent albums:

Richie Blackmore's Rainbow
Magnetic Gliding
Picnic

ah, man this band is perfect, and having 1 album means that they have done wat ever they could in that. there is sth i wanna know about the band actualy, pete robinson??? who is this guy, i know he was playing with Episode SIX before that but wat els, wat happend after quatermass and does he have any other works??? after Pete pardens, my favourate kinda player but not enough works i think.... if u know any thing let me know
