| The Moody Blues are one of those groups I grew up listening to, and they are definitely in my top five favorite bands of all-time. The Moody Blues and King Crimson really opened the doors for me into the world of Art and Progressive rock. Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children, Question of Balance, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Seventh Sojourn built the Moodie's legacy. All these albums have such incredible consistency, neat concepts and contain many utterly magical moments. But if I had to choose my favorite of the Core Seven, I would have to go with "To Our Children's Children's Children". The first seven songs have such an amazing flow, and the whole concept with space travel really makes this album possibly my favorite album of all-time. It really is hard choosing one over the other,but out of The Moody Blue's "Core Seven" albums, which one is your favorite, and why? |

I enjoy those seven almost equally, but I vote for A Question Of Balance because the last time I listened to all of them in a row I liked it the most. |

Yeah, my choice goes with In Search of a Lost Chord
My Moody Blues albums are messed up though, there two second gaps in between all the songs. I cannot listen to them straight through.

To Our Children's Children's Children. but in the search of the lost chord and On a Threshold of a Dream are amazing albums as well.

These albums were sometimes called "The Magnificent Seven" by some MB fans...
I love all these albums, but my choice is "A Question of Balance" - it was my first Moody Blues album (the second was "Long Distance Voyager" - quite a start, wasn't it?). ------------- "He's a man of the past and one of the present" PETER HAMMILL |

'To our childrens childrens children' gets my vote. I think this is their best in terms of consistency, and Haywards vocal performance is also his best IMO. Beatiful melodies and wonderful atmosphere. 'Watching and Waiting' and 'Candle of Life' especially, never fail to move me.
'Seventh Sojourn' comes a close second. 'Land of make believe' is a masterpiece. Mike Pinders Mellotron soars to wonderful heights on that song. There were times I would have liked the Moodies to have varied their sound a little, but when they penned a great song, they were timeless. 'TDOFP' is also a remarkable album, when you consider their age at the time. Beatifully produced too.  ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Yes, "Seventh Sojourn" and "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" would most likely be my runner-ups behind "To Our Children's Children's Children". Once again, these seven albums are so good, it really is hard picking one over the other. On a sidenote, I totally agree about the beauty in "Land of Make Believe", but keep in mind, Mr.Pinder was using a Chamberlin on "Seventh Sojourn". |

I have seen this claim before. Here is a quote from Mike Pinder's website: The Moody Blues' sound evolved with each new album, and so did the Mellotron. The next model was the M-300, produced form 1968-70. This unit was smaller in size/weight, with a single 52-note keyboard. This unit was first heard on the album On the Threshold of a Dream with the tune "Never comes the day." It was also used on the later LP Seventh Sojourn. In fact, if you have your vinyl copy, you can see Mike playing the M-300 (inside photo on the liner jacket). This unit is rare, only 55 were produced. So, yes he used a Chamberlin, but Mellotron is also present. It is believed he also used his Mk II on this album! |

Ah yes, the mechanically superior Chamberlin. It does say on the sleeve notes on SS that he uses that. Worked on the same principle I guess. Although tyhe Moodies are probably just outside my top 5 favorite bands, Mike Pinder remains one of my top keyboard players, for the feel that he could create with just a few perfectly chosen chords. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

| I have a lot of time for all of these and almost nothing that followed. Days Of Future Passed has never been a huge fave of mine due to the twee orchestral bits but the Moodies songs are all excellent. If I'm forced to choose one though, it would undoubtedly be 'In Search Of The Lost Chord'. The first one to really define their sound, and imo the best album of their whole career. |

| I really do enjoy these seven records made by the Moodys and I have them all in vinyl. I guess the one we listened to the most back in the day was Seventh Sojourn. Really is a great album and my favorite of the bunch. |

I voted for To Our Childrens Childrens Children probably because it was the first one I got and I never heard it till 71 or 72. I like them all though.
