My guess is that the song 'The Main Monkey Business' is the instrumental on this album.

        Great!!
There are 13 songs on this album, so none of them will most likely
be over 5 minutes long.
I'm guessing this will be like most of their other repettive albums
since SIGNALS.
P.S. There are some interesting song titles though.

That doesn't look like a Rush album cover.

It looks rather similar to the "Reckoning" album cover by REM.

I think it is the cover. If you look at the pic on HMV you can see the edge of the CD cover with the "spine" where it says "Rush Snakes And Arrows". You know the bit, the part that used to be black on CD cases but is now very often transoparent plastic.

Anyway any bets yet?

If I recall, That's from some obscure German website, I'm not 100% sure about this one either and I think you should refrain from telling people its the real cover until it's official. It sure looks good either way, and I do think it's legit due to the baby on the road, and there is a baby carriage in the artwork for the far cry promo.

However, think it is safe to say the other one is not the cover art- look at this-

Not bad at all, really like the intricate yet heavy intro. I too feel it's in the Counterparts/Vapor Trails vein, though, if a little more musically elaborate in parts. However, even from this song it sounds like the production has a little more breathing space than Vapor Trails did. Looking forward to the album.Thumbs%20Up

This doesn't sound as claustrophobic as Vapor Trails did, Far Cry is really rocks but somehow it;s easier to listen to. Along similar lines to Counterparts, however, not my fave Rush album but a decent one to listen to.

I cannot wait for Snakes and Arrows to come out after hearing Far Cry!Smile

Yes, it sounds like Rush......where they are now......that is, they haven't gone back to recreate something they've done. And yet it has a very much more archetypal Rush sound. The drumming, the guitar. Sounds good to me!Thumbs%20Up

OK, originally I listened to the 45 second clip but just found the full song.

Woohoo!!!

This is good stuff. Not as Prog as I had hoped but still very good. Someone said radio friendly, and I have to agree but still, the boys' chops are still outstanding. No slouching. Alex has a psuedo-lead, sounds more like playing with effects. Geds bass is right out front, where it needs to be.

This makes the wait for the full CD even more painful.

I can't view YouTube at work, but I got an email telling me to check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-6SZZv91_w - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-6SZZv91_w

Apparently someone made a video from the song clip.

Here are the lyrics:

Far Cry

Pariah dogs and wandering mad men
Barking at strangers and speaking in tongues
The ebb and flow of time and fortune
Electrical changes the charge is not the gun

It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowin'

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on
I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rollin' over me
I can get back on
I can get back on

Whirlwind life of the faith and betrayal
Rise in anger fall back in a heap
Slow degrees on the dark horizon
Full moon rising looks ever at your feet

It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowin'

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on
I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rollin' over me
I can get back on
I can get back on

[solo]

It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
You can almost see circle growing
You can almost feel the planet's plowing (?)

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on
I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rollin' over me
I can get back on
I can get back on

One day I fly through a crack in the sky
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on
I can get back on

Ohhhhhhhh
I can get back on
I can get back onnnnnnnn.

OK guys, don't get pissed with the multiple posts, but I just found this, some of it is old news but there is a new tidbit in here:

http://www.q107.com/station/blog_rock_report.cfm?bid=9220 - http://www.q107.com/station/blog_rock_report.cfm?bid=9220
Here you go - the new album "Snakes and Arrows" hits stores May 1st.

1. "Far Cry"
2."Armor and Sword"
3."Workin' Them Angels"
4. "The Larger Bowl"
5. "Spindrift"
6. "The Main Monkey Business"
7. "The Way The Wind Blows"
8. "Hope"
9. "Faithless"
10. "Bravest Face"
11. "Good News First"
12. "Malignant Narcissism"
13. "We Hold On"

I've taken down the original picture I had up here because it wasn't the actual cover. I had a chance to see it this weekend at the World Premier Listening Party for "Snakes and Arrows" - as soon as I get a copy of the cover I'll put it up.

In the meantime, I heard six tracks from the new album. The room was kind of noisy so I can't tell you too much, though I've been able to spend some time with new single "Far Cry", which has an excellent chorus, chords that remind me of classic 70's Rush, and a solid groove, with enough drums to keep me in air percussion heaven. My favourite line - "one day I feel like I'm ahead of the wheel, and the next it's rolling over me" - brilliant.

The other song that really stood out was "Malignant Narcissim", one of three instrumentals on the album and one that makes Alex's head spin just thinking about it. I believe this one ran for under 5 minutes, so it's not a "La Villa"-length epic, more line with a "YYZ" or "Where's My Thing?".

Tour dates are coming soon. In the meantime, the Mighty Q is spinning "Far Cry" and we'd love to know what you think of the tune. http://rush.com/ - Here's a link to Rush.com where it's being streamed as we speak. Go there, take a listen, and then come back and give us your opinion.

Dear AJones, just because a song is not 'prog' does not mean that it cannot be good. The snippet and the whole song really made my day in the past couple of days. They must have enjoyed the studiowork, will be great fun to play live I'm sure.

Nothing special huh?  The band has been together for over 30 years and still making great music and it is nothing special?

I happen to believe that most of what Rush has created is incredible.  Not everything but most.  From what I hear on Far Cry, I am confident that the new album will be great.

Alpine Jones, you have to understand that prog has evolved over the years. Prog hasn't stuck in the past and it has developed in many ways and forms.

If you listen very careful, Rush's sound has changed since 1974, and it is still developing.

If the song feels lame or boring to you, then I feel sorry for you... If there's nothing special about it, then don't get the album either.

Should we read into this or do you think its just one of those things? Not that I mind Rush's instrumentals at all, but Neil always has more than enough to say.

I LOVE their instrumentals, I expected one, but three ?
First time Rush recorded three instrumentals for one album (if this is true).

I guess Neil opted for :"Let the music do the talking".

Amazing news. The new single is a bit friendlier for the audiances that I hoped, but it sounded very good. A little bit too much like Vapor Trails, but I won't judge them by one song. I'm very excited.

Although it is over 5 minutes long and has quite a few timing changes.... it's not, for example, New World Man.  Ya know ?

It's almost too bad that there's gonna be 3 instrumentals, because Geddy's vocals sound amazing on that track. His voice has really matured since the 70s and the vocals on this track are definitely better than even their last couple albums.

The single has been in my head all day - very catchy.  Not sure how this album will rank but from one song I'm positive I'll like it better than their last album.

Hey this song...its actually pretty good!
The intro is nothing new, the same chords we all know, but the song itself, although not terribly prog, is quite good, it does rock quite hard also... maybe the album won´t suck big moneky balls like I think it will...

And just think about this : they chose THIS song as a single, and very rarely are singles the best songs from ANY album...

Also, I've read that there are 3 instrumentals on the album (not confirmed though)

I got this in a roundabout way:

Friday 23rd March
Yesterday afternoon was occupied by a playback of Rush's new album. Given the paranoia that exists about downloading, this was the UK media's only chance to hear 'Snakes & Arrows' before its release date of April 30. I'd been dying to hear it, unlike the representative of Kerrang! that read a book for pretty much the entire 63 minutes, disappeared for a piss halfway through and f**ked off before the last song ended. Okay, I know Rush's current standing at K! Towers probably lies somewhere beneath Panic! At The Disco, Job For A Cowboy or Aiden - altogether... WHO?! - but I admit, this person's disprespect shocked me, especially as Pegi Cecconi from the Rush office was in the room at the time.
Anyway, 'Snakes & Arrows' is a vast improvement upon the Canadian trio's last album. I'll be frank, 2002's 'Vapor Trails' did very little for me. This time the band have gone heavier (very heavy in places!), with guitarist Alex Lifeson being let off the leash. Opening track (and first single) 'Far Cry' is probably the best song, being reminiscent of the band's 'Permanent Waves' album. But generally speaking, it's extremely strong throughout. Hugh Syme's artwork is excellent as ever, visualising a theme that seems to run through some of the songs; the elements. 'Spindrift', for instance, uses pounding instrumental parts to re-create waves crashing in on the western shore. 'The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)', meanwhile, picks up where the 'Hemispheres'-era track 'Circumstances' left off with its couplet of: "Some of us live in a cloud of fear/Some live behind iron gates". In the vaguest possible way, Rush also pay lip service to the differences between the Middle East and Middle
West in 'The Way The Wind Blows', which features the telling line of "Pray... and pass the ammunition" and a great solo from Lifeson. The best compliment that you could pay Peart's words is that they're thoughtful without being stuffy. The album, too, is heavy, but falls short of being one dimensional. You're gonna like it, I'm sure.

It's still unconfirmed, and I highly doubt they would get Hugh Syme to do only the single cover
and then another album cover (the one in your signature) which wouldn't be used.

On Neil's news page he says that his new kit will have a lot of red and black, which goes with the album cover in your sig.
