Hi,
Have you listened to Mr. Sirius?
They are under Canterbury genre, which i personally think it`s wrong...
I can listen to a clear symphonic sound with RPI influences , some Hackett - Oldfield arrangements and also a few fusion-canterbury tunes, which doesn`t make the band a Canterbury one definitely.
With this poll, i am suggesting to move Mr. Sirius from canterbury to Symphonic, or Art Rock, what do you think?? ------------- Follow me on twitter @memowakeman |

On the album Barren Dream in general the sound is mellow symphonic prog ('pastoral prog', another category  ?) with also elements from Canterbury, jazzrock and classical.

Hi. I voted for Symphonic having heard both Barren Dream and Dirge, and some sort of compilation - Crystal Voyage? His work most strikingly reminds me of UK's first album and the albums are drenched in organ and synth sounds. I have always thought that Symphonic is the correct place, nonetheless and due to those Canterbury - Fusion passages, and knowing the site`s definition for Art Rock, i concluded that AR would be a reasonable place. ------------- Follow me on twitter @memowakeman |

I don't think Mr.Sirius is Canterbury at all.
It is no doubtly symphonic rock. As memowakeman says so, I agree with the opinion.
Sirius was formed by Miyatake and other two musicians (not same to solo project Mr.Sirius). However it is different from Canterbury, too.
By the way, there are some different situations from PA's genre in my thought. In Japanese section, they are:
*Ataraxia [ Art -> Symphonic]
*Bellaphone [ Symphonic -> Jazz Rock]
*Bondage Fruit [ Zeuhl -> Jazz Rock]
*Cosmos Factory [ Psyche -> Symphonic] But Cosmos Factory is very difficult to put in only one sub genre. Each 4 album has different taste.
*Gerard [Neo -> Symphonic]
*Happy Family [ Zeuhl -> Jazz Rock]
*Quaser [ Jazz Rock -> Symphonic]
*Wappa Gappa [ Jazz Rock -> Symphonic ] Entirely different from jazz rock even though Wappa Gappa includes ex-member of famous jazz rock band Crosswind !!!
Also if there is a "progressive hard rock" section, they are better to be put in.
*Novela [ symphonic ~ prog hard ~ prog metal ]
*Marge Litch [ prog hard ~ prog metal]
*Moondancer [symphonic ~ prog hard]
*Providence [symphonic ~ prog hard]
Japanese Canterbury type band is, for example, East Wind Pot. Alas I can't remember other bands soon .....

I think Art Rock is the most accurate PA category for them: labelling them as Symphonic would mean the same mistake as labelling them as Canterbury, that is, fogetting 50 % of their basic essence. Art Rock it is.

My two cents worth...
Bellaphon is very symphonic, with just a few hints of melodic jazz-rock:but it's mostly symphonic. Their main influence is the best side of Camel's 77-80 era, which also meakes them not neo (althoug some reviews are misguided about this categorization).
Bondage Fruit and Happy Family are so full of avantgarde sounds that labelling them as jazz-rock bands would not only be wrong but also (perhaps) even insulting. Their taste for obscure tension, creepy pulsations and anti-melodic expansions is so evident that I'm very much perplexed that anyone should not consider them as Zheul.
Wappa Gappa is very deeply rooted in the tradition of jazz-infused prog rock, so I humbly think that they don't really fit the symphonic prog label exactly, no matter how carefully crfated are the arrangements of their melodic ideas. Thier music is nos as intrincate as Weather Report's or Mahavishnu's, bur definitely the jazz thing is the very essence of their sound. The same goes for Interpose+, which I mention here as an additional example.
Now, Gerard should be just symphonic, on that I agree 100 %.
