Go ahead and pick your nose.

I decided to make this compilation of studio albums despite it being a nary impossible task to choose a true favourite/ standout for many of these years.  I avoided live albums and compilations but cheated with choice 24.   There are a couple that I have only listened to samples of, but like what I heard.

I'd be interested to hear of your top five of these -- if you're familiar with enough of them to do so.  Though the list is fairly eclectic, judging my my choices, I hope to hear of some recommendations.

I voted PFM's 1972 album but my countryman, the late M. A. ARAUJO deserves a mention, the album is fine and the title is great: "When The Luck Releases You A Swan In The Night".

I've been listening to it a great deal, particularly since that Eskaton vs. Dun poll.

2 Gentle Giant
3 Eskaton
4 PFM
5 Hellebore

2) Soft Machine vol1              where it all started
3) Pulsar      strands              the exceptional writing overcomes cheap production
4) Magma   kobaias              they're created their own sound; there is only one Magma

There are many interesting albums issued between 1968-1992.

Why not PULSAR "The Strands of the Future" (1976)? Thumbs%20Up

Thanks for all the responses.  I'll note that 1973, which I consider an amazingly great year for Italian Symphonic Prog has no votes with my particular choice.  While there are many great choices (according to my tastes) for that year, and darned near any classic Prog lover (was tempted to list Clearlight - Forever Blowing Bubbles, MO's Birds of Fire, Samla Mammas Manna's Matild, and love Magma's MDK but didn't want to repeat bands in the list) but decided beforehand to choose an Italian Symph Prog classic due to some splendid one and two off efforts.  Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra was the first to spring to mind (and my usual choice of the year) but at the last minute opted not to because, well, I suddenly decided to choose something perhaps a bit less obvious for an Italian Prog lover such as myself -- and bit more obscure..  Also, I was a little torn between Alphataurus, Museo..., Il Rovescio Della...'s Contaminazione, Le Orme's Felona e Serona, and Banco del...'s Io Sono Nato Libero.  Considering that Le Orme and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso are two of my favourite bands, it is a bit strange in a way that I didn't go for any representative.  But then I'd probably choose BdMS's debut, and Le Orme's Contrappunti.

For 1975 I almost went with Carpe Diem's En Regardent Passer le Temps (and Crucis is an older fave).

Hmm, not sure why I'm saying this as it's just another personal list of favourites where I could have chosen quite a few others as well.
