Without these band it not the Prog would have been born!

That then the KC have realized the first true Prog album is another speech.

So, if we should go to see the fathers of the Prog...  That of these favorite and because?

I prefer... Ooohhhh... Boh... Well... The Moody Blues... Because more Prog from 1967... Procol Harum... Because the inventors of true Prog song... The Nice... Because is the first very true Prog Band... But I vote for The Moody Blues!!!

Well... For me (and it is only for me) the true fathers of the Prog have been the "The Shadows"...

Yeah, well, I was just thinkin' of that other art-pop masterpiece of '67. And the Who. 'Cause they rock.

Of these, I dunno. I haven't heard the Nice yet, but my natural inclination is towards the Procolers. That was earlier, right?

Moody Blues

Love Mike Pinder Mellotron, and Justin Haywards voice.

I think The Beatles were more varied, innovative and more 'important' in terms of prog history, and have many fantastic songs to their name, but the Moodies 'move' me more.

Procol Harum. Great organ and piano based songs, good melodies, one of the best singers in (proto) prog, original lyrics...

Take the Beatles out of there, and you might have a contest. After that, I would have to say Moody Blues.

The Moody Blues, followed by Procol Harum. Big%20smile

Coming from Liverpool, and growing up with The Beatles in the sixties, and knowing people who knew them, I can tell you they are nowhere near as popular here as they are anywhere else really!
You'd be surprised how many in this city have never rated them. A case of them being in the right place at the right time, though their historical importance is undeniable.
The Nice were decent, but not for me really. Smile

yes, Brian Wilson was in fact the grandfather of Prog. Stop laughing.

Great choices, Mandy. The Nice it was, but they all were crucial.

The Moodies!  They're simply my favorite from the list to listen to.

The Nice were probably more influential to the creation of prog rock, but I'm not a huge fan of their music.

The Beatles continue to be the most overrated band of all time.

I've never really liked Procol Harem.
