C'mon. C'mon! It ain't THAT bad! I mean, it's hardly good. I'd call it, out of those above in fact, "bad," bordering on "okay." But not horrible, and certainly not the worst album ever. That's that damn Wall cover.
For one thing, there are a couple of catchy songs on it. Perhaps not intelligent, but maybe smart. And, honestly, the Yes style doesn't sound THAT different to my b*****d ears. Just more guitar. Sadly, not Steve's, but more guitar. Guitar is good, right?
Truth to be told, I count on Yes to be catchy and fun, and the album can be catchy, and it is sometimes fun, in a perverse, guilty sorta way. Most of the songs are listenable. Of course, most of 'em do nothing for me.

though this was a kinda limp follow-up to 90125, they were quite good in concert during this 80s period.. fine shows and though no Howe, Rabin was more than capable.

Quite true; I saw the 90210 concert video, and I must admit, Rabin spat out a pretty sh*ttastic version of "Starship Trooper." Mighta been the best thing on there.

I DO like the 80īs Yes style and and also what some other bands were doing in that era, i really think it wasnīt that bad.

Unfortunately, BAD GENERATOR. 90125, definitely not a masterpiece, is much better.

It's ok. I listen to the B side more than most of the stuff put out in the Rabin era.

The music on BG is really good, good songs, the sound quality isn't bad but that awful cover art needs looking at - looks like they were trying to escape from being Yes for a while..?

read my review. i've always sort of championed this album.
it is disjointed, but also diverse. and it has some great performances.
JA shines throughout, probably one of his best recordings ever.

I thank you.
Iguana: funny, I have almost the exact opposite views of you songswise at least; my favorites seem to be the radio favorites.

I believe that if any other band besides Yes had of released this CD in question we would all be saying how good it is , not great but good and solid

Do you mean as opposed to being bad? Because, so far in the poll, it's a good, solid album.

So do you feel that we expect more from Yes?

So do you feel that we expect more from Yes? | I believe that the 90125 thing (good cd btw) took its toll on serious Yes fans by the time BG came out, some blame rabin (i dont) others I suppose didn't like that particular 80's phase that shows up in production and engineering not just for Yes even Rush, Kansas and Tull had particular sounding CD's around this period that don't reflect from a production point of view what the bands are about , however they are still good. its a trend thing

I must admit, for a while even I didn't see what a good album Tull's Broadsword was. However, I've since fixed that.
I don't like Big Generator, however, because more than half the songs do nothing for me. My sympathies, as I've said, lie with the radio hits (the song "The Rhythm of Love Will Find a Way"), which became radio hits (or thereabouts) doubtlessly because they're more memorable.

I like BG and prefer it to 90125, especially side 2. "I'm Running" is one of the best songs of the Rabin era, along with "I am waiting" from "Talk".

.......BROADSWORD is my favorite 5 star TULL album
About BIG GENERATOR, i reviewed it and gave 3 stars. i am sure this album would have gottten a better rating had Roger dean designed the cover!!
After coming with some of the most beautiful covers in the 70s, t hey were trying really hard to get the ugliest design possible in the 80s. i believe these covers didn't help to get love from the old fans as much as the music.
That's not bad; just a different band!

actually i believe 80s Yes are as good as an 80s band could ever get... bar The Smiths of course :)

I personally enjoy Yes' pop albums, including Big Generator. It's nowhere near as good as their progressive albums, of course, but I think it has gotten a bad rap here on the Archives

I've always liked 90125; but, Talk has been gaining momentum lately. An absolutely brilliant disc.

I love about half of Talk. The Calling, Real Love and Endless Dream are all awesome. The rest of the disc is decent, but nothing special. I've always like 90125 as well. BG I saw as something of a disappointment after 90125, but the album has grown on me. I'm Running, Final Eyes, and Shoot High are all good songs. And I don't think the album is as bad as some say it is.
